The Evening Porter provides a mixture of administrative, front of house, security, maintenance and general portering services after main reception has closed. The Evening Porter provides a single after hours point of contact for staff and visitors. The role performs evening lock-up followed by the late security patrol. Position is part-time, hours are 5pm to 10pm, Monday to Friday (there may be some flexibility to finish at 7pm on a Friday). The role is required term-time only. This role could be extended to an all year round position undertaking work in the Maintenance Team during the holiday periods.

Responsibilities of this role are varied, and the key tasks will include:

- Hand-over from main reception office staff at 5.00pm noting any particular requirements for the evening ahead.
- Manage front door whilst visitors are arriving for events and performances.
- Deal with operational issues in support of School events and external hires.
- Assist with visitor and staff queries.
- Deal with minor maintenance issue and help with emergencies. Liaise as necessary with the on-site Caretaker.
- Move deliveries around School.
- Ensure the School’s Fire Safety instructions are available for visitors.
- Act as fire marshal while on duty and manage Fire Alarm System.
- Carry out monthly checks on fire exit doors, fire extinguishers, fire signage and fire exit route plans and report deficiencies to the Estates Manager.
- As part of School lockup ensure all windows/rooflights are closed and lights are off.
- Commence evening lock up of buildings not in use once event audiences are settled.
- During the evening check on external hires in the Sports Centre.
- Assist event owner to ensure visitors have left the buildings post completion of events.
- Assist with car park marshalling as required and on School’s annual open day.
- Ensure Sports Centre is clear at the end of last hire and secure.
- Set Intruder Alarm system to all buildings prior to leaving site, liaise with school listed contractors as necessary to deal with problems.
- Final security patrol.
- Attend to other reasonable tasks set by the Estates Manager.
- Note general items for follow up by main reception staff the following morning.

- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Adaptable and flexible with the ability to think clearly.
- Practical hands-on approach.

**Experience, Knowledge and Qualifications**
- Experience in security related roles is desirable.
- DIY skills with the ability to undertake general maintenance.

- Reliable, with a flexible and helpful approach.
- Ability to work alone or as part of a dispersed Estates team.
- Willingness to undertake relevant training as and when appropriate, including mandatory Child Protection training.

Salary and benefits
- This is a permanent, part-time post working term-time only in line with published school dates.
- Hours of work are 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 5pm to 10pm plus one Saturday to assist with the School’s annual Open Day. There may be some flexibility to finish at 7pm on a Friday.
- Paid pro-rata holiday entitlement of 6.6 weeks (this is based on a full-time equivalent amount of 7.6 weeks per year inclusive of public holidays), to be taken during the School Holidays.
- The salary for this post is Grade 2 Band 21 at £12,123 pro-rata (based on a full-time equivalent salary of £23,408 and an hourly rate of £12).
- Employees may join a stakeholder pension scheme. The School currently double matches employee contributions with a minimum employee contribution of 3%. The maximum employer contribution is capped at 10% of gross salary. Salary sacrifice on pension contributions may be possible.

This role could be extended to be an all year round position undertaking work in the Maintenance Team during the holiday periods. Salary based on 25 hours per week all year round will be £15,600 pro-rata (based on a full-time equivalent salary of £23,408 and an hourly rate of £12).
