Fixed term 1 year Consultant Anaesthetist with special interest in orthopaedic surgery and regional anaesthesia

The centre has six operating theatres and surgery takes place across six days.

The appointee will work Monday to Friday with on call 1:8

The principal duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients. Patient safety, dignity and care are the highest priority and at the centre of all that we do.
- At all times, comply with the GMC’s guidance on ‘Good Medical Practice’ as amended or substituted from time to time.
- To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
- To provide high quality consultant delivered care to patients including clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff.
- To actively provide support to the Pre-Operative Assessment Department.
- To be proactive the in the department’s clinical governance agenda and take on leadership roles to support continuous learning and improvement, thereby abiding by the clinical and corporate governance policies of the Trust.
- To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of Trust resources that you use.
- On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust’s corporate Induction (or arranged Consultant Induction).
- To participate in the Trust’s Statutory & Mandatory training programme.

South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC) is a centre of excellence for providing comprehensive regional elective world class orthopaedic surgery services to the local, national and international community (including in-patient, day-case and outpatient). We are the leading centre for joint replacements and currently carry out over 5000 operations per year. SWLEOC has an outstanding CQC rating and a phenomenal patient experience.

SWLEOC is an NHS treatment centre established by the four South West London Acute Trusts to deliver strategic change in the delivery of planned orthopaedic care, the centre provides high quality, cost efficient, elective orthopaedic services amongst the best in the world.

SWLEOC is recognised as the largest joint replacement centre in the UK and potentially Europe. It is also one of the largest shoulder surgery centres in the UK. In addition, SWLEOC provides a wide range of services in various sub-specialties including young adult hip service, sports surgery, spine, hands and foot and ankle services.

The centre has a PACU which is one of the most successful parts of the model of care at SWLEOC. You will have the opportunity to work with a large group of experienced clinicians dedicated to perioperative medicine and have the opportunity to develop pathways for improving patient outcomes and stay.
