Salford, United Kingdom Home-Start Trafford, Salford & Wigan Full time

**Purposes of the job**

To work as an integral part of the Home-Start Infant Feeding Peer Support team across Salford, encouraging expectant parents to consider breastfeeding / chest feeding and to support new parents who have chosen to do so.

The role will involve reaching out to and supporting expectant and new parents in a number of ways, in support groups, via home visits and over the phone/text, in antenatal clinics and workshops both in-person and online where appropriate. Our breastfeeding work gives us the opportunity to identify at an early stage the families who may benefit from wider Home-Start support, so the peer supporter will be expected to have a ‘whole family’ approach to work and an understanding of the wider needs of families with young children.

- To support ante-natal clinics and other groups as requested
- To refer parents with complex breastfeeding problems to the Infant Feeding Peer Support Manager or other professional as appropriate
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the Infant Feeding Co-ordinators, Midwives, Health Visitors, Children’s Centre staff and other professionals and agencies
- Promote breastfeeding support groups and ante-natal workshops accordingly
- To identify families who would benefit from wider Home-Start support and refer accordingly

**Administrative Duties**
- To complete support records accurately using our case management system (Dynamics)
- To communicate details of parents supported in groups to administrator
- To accurately record details of out of area discharges and communicate with the administrator

**Support to volunteers**
- To work with our Infant Feeding Service Manager in supporting and mentoring volunteers

**Other Duties**
- Attend regular 1-1 supervision with the Infant Feeding Peer Support Manager and at monthly group supervisions
- Supporting the Salford Start for Life campaign, the Promoting Healthy Lifestyles in Early Years (PHLEY) pilot and the MoreLife maternal healthy lifestyles pilot.
- To undertake additional training as required by the Manager
- To maintain confidentiality at all times
- Assist with the organisation of special events related to breastfeeding and to Home-Start in general. Undertake work as delegated by the Managing Director and the Infant Feeding Peer Support Manager to support the strategic management, development and future funding of Home-Start
- Supporting the implementation and review of all Home-Start policies and procedures
- Contributing to and supporting the development of the Home-Start network locally, regionally and nationally
