Development Centre Support Worker (Longford Area)

Band 3 (pro rata)

**Recruiting for the following posts**:
1 Part time position (30 hours per week)

Come and work with us at the Development Centre. We provide day opportunities for people with learning disabilities, who challenge traditional systems in place.

This is an exciting and innovative project where people who have had little opportunity to develop and express themselves are encouraged to grow. The atmosphere is very supportive with the emphasis on building relationships based on trust.

You will be working on a 1-1 basis, in a team environment with the support and guidance of the clinical lead / team leader and manager.

Be prepared to call on all your patience and to help with anything from intimate care to cooking, eating, going to the shops and other exciting trips and activities. Be prepared to be surprised - rewards could come at any time of the day.

You should be

Hold a full driving licence(Manual)

Duties will include a range of tasks such as supporting individuals with a learning Disability and Autism with their everyday needs such as providing structured day service activities to meet their needs and supporting with the development of care plans to assist the individual to grow and expand on their strengths.

You will also be required to support with all aspects of care from nutrition to supporting with living skills and taking medication.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST

To support service users with personal care tasks such as bathing, washing etc. promoting respect, dignity and privacy.

Help organise and support service users Day Services and organise trips.

Provide a rich, stimulating environment, which enhances the life-style of the service users.

Support the physical, mental, social and spiritual growth of the service users in the centre and in the community.

Promotes activities, which are age appropriate and ‘culturally normative’ and take into account special individual needs.

Provide a high quality service that is in-line with all (CQC) Care Quality Commission requirements and Trust policies / procedures.

All aspects of domestic life will be carried out within the centre and their own home. i.e. cleaning, shopping, gardening, laundry and cooking and so on. Support workers will assist the service users to carry out these activities where appropriate and as identified in their Individual Life Plans.

Act as a Key worker for designated service user.

Communication

Promote effective communication systems by using a variety of communication techniques for service users and staff.

Overcome barriers to communication with service users i.e. behaviours that challenge and sensory impairments.

Ensure that all information is handled appropriately inline with Trust’s policies.

Attend team meetings.

Analytical and Judgemental Skills/ Freedom to Act

To ensure that an appropriate balance between individual rights and community safety is maintained.

Along with other key professionals be able to assist and manage risk.

Able to work with out direct supervision.

Planning and Organisational skills

To have knowledge of and contribute to all service users individualise
