Dunstable, United Kingdom The Regulation Station CIC Full time

**Job Description and Personal Specification**

**Job title**: Family Engagement Worker/DDSL

**Place of work**: The Regulation Station

**Hours of work**: 35 hours per week (52 weeks)

**Salary/Grade**: £26,511.00 -£29,577.00

**Reports to**: Deputy Head of Provision

**Level of screening**:Enhanced

**Who we are**
The Regulation Station CIC is all about ‘training the future’, building strength from vulnerability and preparing children and young people, not only to learn and to do well in exams, but to do well in the world and in life.

We aim to address the susceptibility of children and young people to poor social and academic outcomes due to poor mental health; academic and social exclusion and systemic inequities.

The Regulation Station is passionate about the impact early intervention can have on long term life outcomes for children and young people using Dialectical

Behaviour Therapy (DBT) self-regulation skills training with children and young people, aged 9-14, that are at risk of, or experiencing, social and academic exclusion and mental health challenges.

The aim of the intervention is to increase the likelihood of children and young people achieving positive academic and personal outcomes by offering educational assessment to identify potential underlying learning and developmental difficulties and access to a personalised curriculum.

**Our Values**
- Take care of yourself and others
- Be accountable for your actions and their impact
- Embrace vulnerability as a source of strength
- If it’s not good enough for you, it’s not good enough for anyone else
- Know what you want to achieve before you begin
- Be aware of your power and use it wisely
- Take time to stop and smell the roses

**Our Core Principles**
- All behaviour is communication
- Those we work with are doing the best they can and want to improve
- Those we work with need to do better, try harder and be motivated to change
- Those doing the work also need support

**What does good look like in this role?**:

- National research demonstrates that children do better at school and achieve more in life when parents and schools work together. Only 15% of a child’s life is spent it school and so it is clear that parents have the most influential role in a child’s education and development. It is important to recognise that each of us has a role to play and by working together with and empowering parents we aim to ensure that every child does the best they can at school and beyond._

You are flexible in your approach, positive and self-motivated, able to work both independently and as part of a team.

You can handle the responsibility that dealing with the emotional well-being of vulnerable adults and young people can bring. You are resilient and able to employ a range of strategies and tools to effectively work with families with complex emotional and behavioural challenges. You are highly skilful at quickly building trust in order to engage parents/carers with assessment and intervention processes.

You have experience of working with parents and families across a range of settings and are confident in managing competing priorities and dynamic expectations. You are an experienced safeguarding practitioner and are competent in managing casework, carrying out home visits and responding to unusual behavioural presentation in children, young people and adults.

You are experienced in multiagency working practices and able to facilitate supportive conversations between professionals and parents/carers to engender continuing listening and learning from the feedback of the lived experience of parents/carers and their children.

You are passionate about inclusion and confident to assist parents during the reintegration of students into a mainstream school when the time comes

**Main Duties**
- Increase the involvement of parents and carers in their child’s process of self-regulation skills training and progress towards reintegration to school
- Provide opportunities for parents/carers to learn how to meet the social, emotional, and developmental needs of their children through workshops developed in response to formally assessed needs and parent/carer identified needs
- Work closely with parents/carers and referring agencies to support the needs of students to overcome factors such as, anxiety, poor attendance, challenging behaviour and poor self-regulation, which have contributed to their difficulties engaging with expectations in school
- Work with parents/carers to build strong, positive links with the provision and their child’s school
- Work alongside the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to represent The Regulation Station at multi agency, Child in Need and Child Protection meetings, where appropriate
