School Governor

At St. John’s School, we consider ourselves to be the home of innovative and inspirational learning. Situated in Seaford in East Sussex, St. John’s is a special educational needs (SEN) school that provides education, care and medical therapy to young people aged 7 to 19. The School works closely with our College in Brighton for our young adults 19 - 25.

We are looking to expand and diversify our governing body with an enthusiastic and committed individual who can make a positive difference to the safety, welfare, and development of our learners. As a member of our governing body you will be working closely with our Senior Leadership team to provide support and challenge.

We are looking for experience in:

- Teaching and Learning
- Finance and Accounting
- Family Law with an interest in SEN Education

**Who are we?**

St. John’s is a non-maintained specialist school, working with autistic children and young people, the majority of whom also have learning disabilities. Some of our learners have comorbid conditions such as epilepsy, hearing or visual impairments, or mental health needs. We also support autistic learners who have an additional profile of Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) syndrome. We have a team of support workers, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, nurses, PBS practitioners, assistant psychologists, and more, to support a holistic approach to our teachers in their development.

Each learner’s curriculum is shaped by their individual strengths, interests, and challenges. St. John’s is awarded with Autism Accreditation by the National Autistic Society (NAS). We support our learners to develop their skills in the NAS’s four focus areas of:

- Social communication and interaction
- Selfreliance and problem-solving
- Sensory
- Emotional Wellbeing
