We are seeking to appoint a Catering Assistant.

To assist in the preparation, cooking and serving of meals within the Academy canteen. Managing Resources

Assist in the storage and rotation of all canteen stock. Health & Safety

Maintain stocks of food under appropriate hygienic conditions and ensure stock rotation.

Ensure that all agreed Health & Safety policies, COSHH regulations and HACCP procedures are complied with.

Support fully any Health & Safety inspections.

Prepare, cook and serve all meals in line with National Nutritional standards.

Adhere to a high standard of personal cleanliness and hygiene and thereby set an example to other catering staff.

Report immediately any machinery faults or unhygienic areas to the Catering Manager.

Be aware of the responsibility for personal Health, Safety and Welfare and that of others who may be affected by your actions or inactions.

Co-operate with the employer on all issues to do with Health, Safety & Welfare. General Responsibilities

Set a good example in terms of personal presentation, attendance and punctuality.

In conjunction with the line manager, take responsibility for personal professional development, keeping up-to-date with relevant developments, which may lead to improvements in the day-to-day running of the academy.

Good literacy and numeracy skills (E)

Basic food handlers (level 2) certificate (E)

NVQ Level 1 or 2 in cookery or ability to undertake this qualification within 8 weeks of commencing role (E) - NVQ Level 2 in Cookery (D) Experience

No specific previous experience required (E)

Previous experience working in a kitchen environment (D)

Previous experience operating tills and handling cash (D)

Experience of working with children and young people (D) Abilities, Skills & Knowledge

Able to understand and adhere to legislation such as food hygiene and COSHH regulations (E)

Have an understanding of the working conditions within a busy kitchen environment (E)

Good interpersonal skills, able to communicate well with children and adults (E)

Able to safely operate a range of kitchen related machines and equipment (E)

Competent at basic food preparation and cooking tasks (E)

Proficient at cleaning and maintaining a hygienic working environment (E)

Able to keep clear and accurate records (E)

Ability to prepare homemade style dishes (D)

Able to work as part of a team, able to form effective relationships with colleagues to ensure an effective catering service (E)

Able to form positive professional relationships with children (E)

Able to maintain confidentiality over matters relating to the school, students, staff or parents (E)
