The Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) for the North East North Cumbria (NENC) is looking to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic Associate Director of Project Management, with a minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role (ideally in a healthcare organisation) to lead the initial set-up, roll-out and on-going delivery of the organisation’s project management function.

**Salary**:Starting from £56,444 per annum pro rata (dependant on experience)

**Hours of Work**: 37.5 per week (Monday-Friday)

**Contract Type and Duration**:Permanent

**Place of Work**: Flexible working arrangements will be considered, including working from home and office-based options

**Responsible to**:Chief Operating Officer for the AHSN NENC

**Introduction**

The Academic Health Science Network for the North East and North Cumbria Limited (AHSN NENC) is one of fifteen AHSNs set up with the aim of spreading innovation at pace and scale across the healthcare system, in order to achieve the ultimate goals of improving health and generating economic growth. The AHSN NENC supports several different Work Programmes including Digital, Economic Growth, Health Improvement and the Patient Safety Collaborative, all of which encompass a range of innovative and high impact projects.

The AHSN NENC is a membership-based organisation that provides technology transfer services to its Member Organisations, which include local Foundation Trusts, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) and local universities. As part of the services that we provide to our Member Organisations, we support the identification, harvesting, protection, commercialisation, adoption, and dissemination of healthcare innovation originating from within their organisations.

The AHSN NENC is funded by NHS England and NHS Improvement, The Office for Life Sciences and its regional Member Organisations.

**Overview of the role**

The Associate Director for the Project Management Office (PMO) will report into the Chief Operating Officer and be responsible for the initial set-up, roll-out and on-going delivery of the organisation’s project management function. Managing a team of project support officers, the Associate Director will work closely with the Project Management Development team to set up the newly created project management office and governance structure. This will involve leading the deployment of the newly created project management framework and project management software (Verto365) across the organisation.

The postholder will work closely with the other Associate Directors, and their teams of programme and project managers to ensure that all projects are created and delivered consistently using the newly created project management framework and are performance managed according to the newly created governance structure.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**

**General**
- Lead the set-up of the AHSN NENC Project Management Office (PMO) and governance structure.
- Contribute to supporting the development and implementation of internal systems to ensure that relevant project data is captured and evidenced.
- Lead the deployment of the newly created project management framework and project management software across the organisation.
- Be the conduit with and manage the relationship between the AHSN & the PM software developer in relation to the roll out, ongoing maintenance and further development.
- Work closely with the Associate Director (Innovation Pathway) to ensure seamless integration and two-way flow of relevant information between internal systems and ensure Project management becomes a seamless part of the Innovation Pathway
- Maintain and evolve, where appropriate, an effective governance structure ensuring effective functioning of the Project steering groups, Programme Boards & Executive Reviews in facilitating the appropriate reporting, performance management, escalation & mitigation.
- Support the organisation’s annual business planning process, enabling translation of the organisation’s strategic objectives into clearly defined programmes of work.
- Ensure effective communications within and between teams, be involved in and participate in meetings as requested; and
- Work to achieve agreed objectives and work under own initiative.
