Sen Classroom Assistant

**LOUGH VIEW INTEGRATED PRIMARY & NURSERY SCHOOLJOB DESCRIPTION - SEN CLASSROOM ASSISTANT (KS2 Initially)**

**1. Job purpose**
The person appointed will work with and under the supervision of the class teacher, to assist him/her in meeting the needs of children with Learning Difficulties

**2. Specific responsibilities**
- Providing one-to-one support for designated children when and where appropriate.
- Helping the children to develop academically, socially and in terms of independence and self management.
- Liaising with the class teacher and SENCO to review their progress.

**3. General responsibilities**
- Assist the teacher in the efficient running of the class support learning groups as directed by the teacher.
- Prepare materials as required.
- Set up of various items of equipment as required e.g. PE / outdoor play equipment, water/sand trays etc.
- Prepare work as required.
- Assume responsibility for supporting/supervising groups of children or individual children on specified activities, as directed by the teacher, e.g. supervision of small groups of children at task time, using the computer etc.
- Participate in classroom activities with the teacher.
- Provide continuity of adult care, e.g. supervising play and cloakrooms including hand washing and correct use of toilet facilities.
- Clear up work in the classroom e.g. changing paints, water in water tray, sharpening pencils, putting away toys and materials correctly
- Assist with classroom administration e.g. collecting money, lost property etc.
- Photocopying, laminating, displays etc.
- Any other reasonable request that will support the smooth running of the classroom/school.

- **Qualifications/Experience**_

Hold a minimum of a Level 2 childcare qualification as approved by the EA*

A minimum of 6 months experience working with a child/children in a formal learning environment e.g. school, nursery, playgroup or special school.

Have a minimum of one years’ experience working with a child/children with special educational needs.
- **Knowledge/Skills**_

Evidence of an ability to work flexibly and creatively to help ensure a child-centered learning experience

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Proven team working and collaborative skills

Effective planning and organisational skills to ensure work is completed on time to a high standard

Ability to use c2k computer and software packages

Experience of using Microsoft Outlook packages, e.g Word and Powerpoint

Experience of using visual timetables with children

**RECRUITMENT OF CLASSROOM ASSISTANTS**
- **Temporary Post - until 30th June 2023 (with the possibility of extension**_**)**

**Post** - SEN Assistant to support a child in KS2 (20 hpw scale Pt 5 - £11.49ph - £21,575 PA pro-rata)
