**About the role**

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated analytical chemist, who can operate both independently and within a team of applied geochemists. The post may suit but is not limited to recent graduates and it presents a great opportunity for ongoing learning and skills development.

Specifically, you will have responsibility for wet chemistry - developing chemical/geochemical knowledge and, in time, oversee the dissolution of solid samples for subsequent elemental analyses, alongside development of specialist extraction methods e.g. contaminated land, agricultural sectors. These tasks will support working safely and facilitate the integration of wet chemistry laboratory within the analytical instrumentation labs.

Instrumentation will involve the operation and development of an MP-AES instrument for specialised elemental measurements as well as other analytical equipment as required e.g. water/soil chemistry.

It is possible that you will get involved in developing new analytical methodologies for deployment in a laboratory or field environment and it is also likely there will be opportunities for UK and/or international fieldwork.

**About you**

It is likely that you will have some oversight of the activities of BGS sandwich course students as they settle into their roles and you will need to be able to make informed judgements on their performance to be signed off as trained, as required by ISO.

**Please note - you will be required to have the appropriate level of security screening/vetting required for the role.** **UKRI reserves the right to run or re-run security clearance as required during your employment.**
