These are exciting opportunities to join the Hull York Medical School teaching team within the Medical School and at York & Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS FT. There are multiple posts available and all offered as 12 month fixed term posts with possible extension by mutual agreement. Hours can be flexible around the needs of the service and may involve some travel to other HYMS teaching sites. A fixed clinical shift as part of the post is also encouraged.

The successful applicants will be responsible for assisting & developing the delivery of the Hull York Medical School’s teaching and/ or curriculum on the MBBS programme, contributing to the development of relevant & innovative pedagogical methods to maximise student learning. The roles could include simulation, bedside teaching, prescribing teaching, communication skills, developing teaching materials & also a potential research focus. There will also be an opportunity to complete a part-funded Postgraduate Certificate in Health Professions Education (PGCertHPE) qualification at Hull York Medical School. The work is challenging, varied & a valuable addition to your professional development and career.

York Hospital is located just minutes away from the historic city centre of York which is home to a wide range of restaurants, bars, shops and theatres; perfect for all ages. There are many bus routes accessible throughout York and the train station is only a ten minute drive from the hospital with regular services to surrounding areas such as Leeds and direct connections to many other cities, including the ability to travel to London in under 2 hours.

The region boasts a diverse coastline which can be accessible by car, train or coast liner. Yorkshire is also home to two National Parks, and many theme parks and attractions such as Flamingo Land, Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Eden Camp, Tropical World and many famous landmarks such as York Minster, Castle Howard and Whitby Abbey.

Applicants should be enthusiastic, motivated and interested in education, preferably with experience of delivering near-peer medical education. You should possess proven communication & interpersonal skills. It is important you are comfortable engaging with students, patients & staff at all levels.

Two different posts are available; one mainly based at the Medical School and one mainly based at York Hospital. The principle duties of the posts vary slightly (please see full Job Description) but is to deliver teaching sessions to students from the Hull York Medical School and to provide comprehensive clinical care to patients.

To participate in the Trust’s statutory and mandatory training programme

To be responsible for the clinical management of in and out patients under your care.

To comply with Trust policies and procedures where appropriate.

To ensure that all intellectual property rights of the Trust are observed.
