These two new posts have arisen as a result of the need for increased inpatient and outpatient consultant support at the Northwick Park hospital site. The post holder will work in a great department with a very welcoming team, and with exciting opportunities to develop or subspecialise.

Northwick Park is an NHSE commissioned specialised Rheumatology centre. There is a cross site CTD, Vasculitis and specialised rheumatology MDT combined with rheumatology colleagues at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, and this offers referral of patients from Rheumatology Centres in the NWL sector. There is also an ILD MDT, and each site hold a specific MSK Radiology MDT. There are established specialist clinics in CTD, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Early Inflammatory Arthritis, MSK Ultrasound, Psoriatic Arthritis, Metabolic Bone Disease and Idiopathic Inflammatory Myositis, as well as a GCA/TA US pathway facilitated through the Ambulatory Care Centre. Research is encouraged, and it is supported by the R&D department, with several on-going commercial and NIHR studies.

The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the ongoing care of the general medicine patients at Northwick Park Hospital site on a rota basis, shared between 8 consultants following this recruitment, and will also be involved in the provision of specialty rheumatology input to medical inpatients and ambulatory care. The expected rheumatology inpatient referrals are between 1-4 per week, and are primarily seen by the specialist registrar, with consultant review /advice sought where necessary.

There is a rheumatology postgraduate academic meeting weekly, as well as the North West London Forum regional meeting quarterly. Each of the three trust sites holds individual service meetings but the department join for bimonthly Clinical governance meetings with a strong focus on audit, pathway development and transformation.

Therapy Audit is utilised to support drug management/monitoring and there is a specialist lead Pharmacist who works across the sites supporting rheumatology and biologic therapy

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the GIM on-call rota covering emergency admissions for post take ward rounds on 4 weekends per year (one weekend approximately every 3 months). This is reflected on the job plan as 1 DCC. Time off in lieu is given weekly as one afternoon off as outlined on the job plan. There is no other GIM on call commitment as weekdays are covered by acute medicine.

The post is offered as a DCC/SPA split of 7.75 DCC/ 2.25 SPA

The post holder will join a team of 11 consultants and 4 specialist registrars, 1 teaching fellow and 1 trust grade doctor, and will be expected to contribute to the supervision of junior doctors and other members of the multidisciplinary team, in addition to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. There is a specialist lead Pharmacist who works across the sites supporting rheumatology and biologic therapy, alongside specialist rheumatology nurses. The post holder will have allocated office space, and secretarial and administrative support is provided by dedicated staff based within the service. All consultant offices have dedicated computers for use or if preferred the post holder may have a laptop with docking station to facilitate office/ remote working.

The post holder will be expected to undertake 3 Outpatient Rheumatology clinics per week and will be encouraged to develop a sub-specialty interest. The post holder will be expected to engage with the multidisciplinary team and will supervise junior doctors and other members of the MDT. Northwick Park has a dedicated Rheumatology day care unit open Monday to Thursday and treats 10-14 patients a day. Clinical support is provided by the rheumatology registrars on a daily basis and consultant review requested only if necessary.
