The BWDBC Corporate Building Team wish to appoint a highly motivated adaptation worker with the ability to provide building ‘handyman’ type installation and repair works to a wide range of domestic properties throughout the area of Blackburn with Darwen in collaboration with the Adults Social Care Team.
It would be desirable for any applicant to have had previous experience within the building/construction industry, or have been involved in a previous role that required any basic building repair or maintenance tasks.
It would be necessary to demonstrate an ability to use a range of traditional hand tools and various hand held power tools in a safe and competent manner.
There are no formal qualifications required for this role, but any qualifications associated with building installation and maintenance would be advantageous. It would also be desirable, but not essential, to have construction biased Health and Safety awareness knowledge/ qualifications.
The applicant should have a basic understanding of PC based Microsoft packages to enable work/contract inputting requirements and be able to produce job associated paperwork to a good standard (training can be provided).
The role requires a well organised, methodical worker who can display excellent communication in both written and verbal form.
**Duties include**:
Responding to reactive and planned domestic property adaptation works (installation of handrails, bannister rails, key safes and other basic ‘handyman’ type installation tasks). Making safe or rendering a repair within the required timescales, and being responsible for the general day to day installation of adaptation works to a variety of private dwellings and properties within the borough.
Responsible, as part of the team, for the installation of domestic disabled adaptation works as part of Adult & Children’s DFG’s (disability facilities grants) schemes.
Carrying out dynamic risk and installation assessments when lone working on tasks.
Assisting/ working alongside other trade workers within the Corporate Building Team.
Working to deadlines in order to meet productivity and installation targets.
Balancing priorities, communicating effectively with management and clients, and completing all associated paperwork.
A full driving licence is mandatory for this post.
A full DBS check will be required for this post.
You will be required to work a 5 day, 37 hour week
Monday - Thursday: 08:00 - 16:00pm
Friday: 08:00 - 15:30pm
There may be occasional requirements for variations to the aforementioned working hours in order to fulfil business needs.
