An opportunity has arisen for highly motivated Locum Consultant in Stroke Medicine to join our stroke team. This locum consultant post will support the step-down care for rehabilitation at local general hospital at Ystrad Mynach, Hengoed.

Aneurin Bevan Health Board is one of seven acute Local Health Boards in Wales.

It provides acute, community and mental healthcare services to more than 600,000 people living in Southeast Wales and is one of the largest and busiest NHS health boards/Trusts the UK. Currently, it is responsible for delivering services through its centre of specialist and critical care at the newly built Grange University Hospital and three other acute hospitals in Newport, Abergavenny and Ystrad Mynach, supported by community hospitals, health centres and extensive mental health and learning disabilities facilities.

The Grange University Hospital provides specialist and critical care including hyper acute stroke care. The three local General Hospitals provide care to patients who do not require surgery, specialist care or intensive care support.

You should be dynamic, enthusiastic consultant who will contribute to the provision and development of high-quality stroke care for our population.

Development and clinical delivery of a comprehensive stroke assessment

Comprehensive assessment of stroke mimics

Acute inpatient assessment and treatment of stroke and stroke mimics and non-stroke patients admitted to stroke ward

TIA and stroke follow up outpatient clinics

On call commitment for stroke Thrombolysis in hours and out of hours

Supporting the training of medical staff, clinical specialist and ward nurses and other members of the MDT

Providing effective leadership to multidisciplinary staff members

Supporting and developing effective communications between all clinical stakeholders

Supporting junior medical staff within the team to deliver a high standard of care

Supporting staff members within the services to increase their knowledge and skills within their professional boundaries

You should be dynamic, enthusiastic consultant who will contribute to the provision and development of high-quality stroke care for our population.

You should have MRCP and be on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register or within six months of completing a Training Programme recognised for the award of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).
