Your health and social care champion (Healthwatch Sefton) are looking for local residents who would like to volunteer their time to support us

We want volunteers to work with and encourage local residents and community groups/organisations to share their patient stories, experiences and journeys with us.

Healthwatch gives people the opportunity to share their experiences of using health and care services and makes sure this valuable feedback is shared and listened to by NHS leaders and other decision makers to improve standards of care. We are an independent and non-political organisation.

**We are looking for volunteers who live in the following areas of Sefton**:
(or have worked and have good knowledge of)
- Hightown
- Bootle
- Seaforth & Litherland
- Netherton

**What do you want me to do?**
- We would like you to spend time getting to know local community groups/organisations in your local area.
- We would like you attend local events, for example, local coffee mornings/ group activities to talk to people. We would like you to talk to people about Healthwatch Sefton and encourage them to join us.
- We would ask you to listen to and record their patient stories, experiences and journeys of health and care services they have received.
- We would like you to promote us by distributing our leaflets and posters to local services and organisations.
- We would like our volunteers to attend at least 2 activities per month and we provide volunteer travel expenses. Volunteering is flexible, the majority of volunteer activities will take place Monday - Friday during working hours.

**We value our volunteers**
- We want our volunteers to be part of our decision-making processes and we would include you in our committee structures to ensure that you are able to influence our work and ensure that the issues you are hearing about are listened to and heard by us.
- As a volunteer you would be invited to be a member of our Community Champion Network and our Steering Group, which meet monthly/every two months.
- We also hold regular support sessions for our volunteers both on a one to one basis or as a group.
- We will listen to your feedback and ideas and encourage you to be involved

We are looking for volunteers who may have previous experience in working with people and communities although support and training will be available.

**Skills which will be useful for this role**
- Experience of working with the public and being able to relate to people of different ages and backgrounds
- Listening and writing skills to record accurate feedback from individuals and groups
- Good verbal communication skills
