This job description is for a locum consultant in Urology based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kings Lynn. It is expected that the post holder will be trained in general urology and have a subspecialist interest to compliment the wider department, such as functional urology, but any sub specialist interest will be considered.

**Location**: Main base at Queen Elizabeth Hospital In Kings Lynn.

**Principle Job Purpose**: To provide in conjunction with colleagues urological services and sessions at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn.

The Norfolk & Waveney Urology Department, established in 2020, consists of 23 Consultants working across three sites. 14 Consultants (13.8 whole time equivalents), 3 Specialist Registrars, 5 Clinical fellows, and 2 ACFs, are at NNUH, 4 Consultants and 1 specialty doctor at JPUH and 5 Consultants at QEHKL.

Please be aware this post is based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn but the employing Trust is Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital Trust.

Main Duties

1. Share with consultant colleagues the urological workload.

2. Provide with the other consultants a system of mutual out-of-hours cover for annual, study and professional leave. The current on call system is based at QEH and is covered by 6 consultants, but this may change as the Norfolk & Waveney Urology Service transforms. On call is supported by a urology middle grade and on weekend, the junior support is provided by surgical and urology teams. Weekend on call cover responsibility is 1:6.

3. Give a consultation and advisory service to medical colleagues in other specialities in the Trusts.

4. Liaise with medical staff in other specialities and participate in the regular clinical meetings and other post-graduate activities of the hospitals.

5. Take part in the Royal College of Surgeons continuing medical education programme. The employing Trust will provide study leave expenses in line with national terms and conditions of service.

6. Play a full part in the teaching and audit activities of the department.

7. Participate in the rolling process of ASI clinical governance at JPUH, QEH and NNUH.

8. Contribute to management of the service.

9. Comply with the outline Consultant work programme (under provisions of Circular HC90/16) and the weekly timetable of fixed commitments (ie: regular scheduled NHS activities in accordance with paragraph 30B of the TCS).

10. Academic input is optional but there is the opportunity for developing research. Active participation of teaching to undergraduate medical students from UEA and links with university encouraged.

Other Responsibilities

Subject to the provisions of the Terms and Conditions of Service to observe the Trust’s agreed policies and procedures drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters and to follow the standing orders and financial instructions of the Trust. To observe local and national employment and personnel policies and procedures, and to comply with Regional and Trust Health and Safety policies. To assume responsibility for and facilitate contact from members of staff with delegated duties for personally accountable patient care.

Job Plan

A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and their Service Director, on behalf of the Medical Director, three months after the commencement date of the appointee. For the first three months the job plan will be based on the provisional timetable. The job plan will then be reviewed annually. The document will be a prospective agreement that sets out a consultant’s duties, responsibilities and objectives for the coming year. It will cover all aspects of a consultant’s professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. It will provide a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external. In addition, it will include personal objectives, including details of their link to wider service objectives and details of the support required by the consultant to fulfil the job plan and the objectives.
