**Fire Safety Officer**

**Special Conditions of Service**:

- Responsible for services provided across various locations, including outside of core hours.
- Extended flexi-time scheme in operation.
- Flexibility required to work outside normal hours, including emergencies.
- Ability to travel within and outside the Borough with expenses covered.
- Attendance at evening meetings as required.

**Purpose and Objectives of Post**:

- Create and implement a schedule of fire safety management audits across all buildings.
- Oversee proactive implementation of fire measures.
- Develop and update Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) across buildings.
- Deliver training to Designated Responsible Persons on fire safety.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and Codes of Practice.
- Report to the Programme Manager (Premises).

**Duties/Responsibilities**:

- Advise on fire issues related to building structure, alterations, and maintenance.
- Liaise with Designated Responsible Persons to manage fire safety compliance.
- Write new FRAs and review/update existing ones.
- Provide training to Designated Responsible Persons and staff.
- Ensure fire precautions meet legislative requirements.
- Monitor compliance and provide reports to Senior Leadership Team.
- Advise on new build fire safety requirements.
- Develop fire prevention strategies and policies.
- Monitor day-to-day fire precautions and conduct audits.
- Manage training requirements for Evac Chair management.
- Liaise with GMFRS on fire safety issues.
- Conduct fire safety management spot checks.
- Work with on-site staff to monitor incidents and provide debriefs.
- Implement and maintain an audit strategy for fire arrangements.
- Manage and maintain all required PPE and equipment.

- Cooperate with managers on health and safety matters.
- Report any health and safety issues or shortcomings.

**Short Listing Criteria (Essential)**:

- Level 3 qualification in fire safety and risk management.
- Institute of Fire Engineers approved qualification in Advanced Fire Risk Assessment.
- Degree level qualification in occupational health and safety management.
- Extensive experience in workplace FRAs and compliance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and IT systems.
- Experience in presenting and training.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Proactive approach to fire safety and problem-solving.
- Experience in a similar role in a Local Authority setting.

**Criteria for Interview and Other Assessment Methods**:

- Relevant training experience.
- Ability to manage, process, report on, and analyze data.
- Knowledge of fire safety legislation and guidance.
- Strategic thinking and ability to promote a fire safety culture.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 2 months

Pay: £19.00-£19.81 per hour

Expected hours: 37 per week
