Cambridge, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

**Do you have great analytical and IT skills? Interested in a role aiming to improve lives? Looking for your next challenge?**

**About NIHR BioResource**:
Our mission is to facilitate human health research and its transformation into medical practice.

NIHR BioResource is a unique and powerful resource for studying disease mechanisms and investigating the links between genes, the environment, health and disease, enabling scientific discoveries as well as facilitating translational medicine for the benefit of patients.

**About the job**:
This is an exciting position that will play a vital role in supporting long read sequencing and genomics research in the UK's largest long read sequencing project, using samples and data from the NIHR Bioresource.

You will hold a relevant PhD in statistical genetics or bioinformatics or have at least 4 years of relevant experience and be proficient in the generation or analysis of large-scale genomic data and bioinformatics. Optimally, this will include genome wide association studies, and/or exome or whole genome sequencing analyses. Alternatively, you will have experience in large-scale biomarker informatics.

The role holder will have good skills in statistical analysis, preferably in R and/or python, and LINUX/bash. You will be able to work independently and maintain excellent relationships with our collaborators. High quality written communication and presentation skills are essential.

**About you**:
You will ideally have:

- Experience with IT and database management with LINUX/UNIX and High Performance Computing (HPC) environments
- Formal bioinformatics and programming experience or training
- Excellent organisational, communication, interpersonal and administrative skills
- Ability to follow research guidelines and protocols

**What we offer**:
The University offers a wide range of benefits including flexible working, family friendly policies, an attractive pension scheme (employer's contribution is up to 14.5%) and 41 days' annual holiday (inclusive of public holidays). We encourage career development by providing extensive training & development opportunities.

This appointment is full-time, 37 hours per week; part-time to 80% will be considered. Work life balance is important, and we are open to discussion on flexible working, including hybrid working.

Our offices are on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus CB2 0QQ (approximately 2 miles south of the city centre).

See the Further Information link below for full details and Person Specification.

The post is available on a fixed-term basis until 31 March 2026 in the first instance. NIHR BioResource is funded by the National Institute for Health & Care Research (NIHR) on a 5-year funding cycle. It was announced last year that NIHR BioResource will receive new funding over the next 5 years.

The interview date for the role is: Week commencing Monday 8th April 2024

The University has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
