This is a rewarding volunteering role on our older people's services in Stockport.

We are looking for a friendly, and enthusiastic person who has knowledge and/or experience of our Older Adult Mental Health.

If you want to gain experience, improve your job prospects, or just want to give some of your time to help others, this volunteering role could be for you

Main duties of the job

The role is intended to enhance the experience of those people using our services byenabling service users to improve their own wellbeing by giving them your time and through communication, discussion, available resources and encouraging engagement in therapeutic activity.

Also by using personal experience to contribute to appropriate sessions/ groups, use your knowledge to inform the sessions and promote positive engagement anduse personal experience to assist in service planning.

**What the role involves**:

- To build trusting relationships.
- To allow service users time to express themselves.
- To give service users regular designated time if required.
- To encourage and support identified service users to interact.
- To encourage participation and give individuals support with the therapeutic programme.
- To support service users to provide feedback on their experience.
- To use personal experience to promote positive attitudes and coping strategies.
- To assist the Unit team in the understanding of the service user’s needs.
- To assist the team with future planning

**DBS Level for this role is**: Enhanced with adult barred list

- Good communication skills.
- Lived/living experience of services
- Ability to effectively engage with service users, carers and staff
- An awareness of mental health
- An awareness of how to maintain confidentiality

Volunteer Recruitment

Please be aware that due to the robust process, recruitment can sometimes take a few weeks.

Throughout the process you will have informal meetings with us and the service where you will be volunteering. In addition to this we will require you to:

- Complete an identity (ID)
- Complete a Disclosure and Barring Service* (DBS) Check,
- Complete an Occupational health assessment
- Give details for two references
- Complete relevant training.
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check

DBS checks for volunteers arefreeand the level of check is dependent on the role you are undertaking.
