Healthcare Assistant - Breast Care, Band 2 (23.5 hours a week)

Thirlestaine Breast Centre provides screening and diagnostic services for patients cross country. We are looking for healthcare assistants who are forward thinking, proactive, have a willingness to learn and who want to assist the clinical members of the breast care team under their supervision. As a team we provide a high quality, comprehensive nursing service to all patients and users accessing the breast centre. We ensure a high standard of patient care is maintained in a clean and safe environment. If you have the skills required for the role and can work as part of a team as well as independently we would like to hear from you.

This is a part time fixed term temporary position to cover maternity leave for 10 months.

The post holder will need to have availability to work Monday to Friday to fulfil the needs of the breast service.

Hours of work 3 days a week 08:30-13:30, 1 day a week 08:30-17:30.

The proposed interview date is 21st March

Healthcare Assistants (HCA's) are an essential role to the smooth running of the breast clinics at Thirlestaine.

**HCA's assist with the following**:

- The smooth running of symptomatic clinics, breast screening and results clinics.
- Working with all members of the breast care team to assist in the chaperoning and efficient movement of patients around the breast centre.
- Ensuring clinics start on time.
- Completing clinics with notes and paperwork correctly filed and clinic rooms stocked and tidied.
- Caring for patients who have received bad news and caring for those patients who are going through cancer treatment.
- A requirement of the role is to position and manoeuvre patients and equipment on a daily basis.
- To assist clinicians with breast biopsies, examinations, ultrasounds and mammograms.

**Knowledge and work experience**:

- Previous care experience
- Basic knowledge of IT skills - using word, outlook
- Willingness to learn

**Qualifications and training**:

- At least 3 x GCSE's A-C (9-4) including a science
- Appropriate training will be provided

**Communication and interpersonal skills**:

- Possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Use effective skills to communicate with and reassure patients and relatives in circumstances where they may be worried or distressed.
- Able to communicate with multiple team members - Consultants, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Radiologists, Imaging Assistants, Reception staff, Nursing Staff

**Organisational Skills**:

- To assist in the smooth running of symptomatic clinics, breast screening and result clinics.
- Working with all members of the breast care team to assist in the chaperoning and efficient movement of patients around the breast centre.
- Ensuring clinics start on time.
- Completing clinics with notes and paperwork correctly filed.
- Clinic rooms stocked and tidied.

- IT literate
- Experience of hospital specific IT systems such as Trakcare and CRIS, however, this is not essential as full training can be given.
- Flexible approach to working hours. This is a part time position, but the post holder will need to have availability to work Monday to Friday to fulfil the needs of the breast service.
