An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Maternity Matron at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust.

You will be supported in your role by the Deputy Head of Midwifery and Director of Midwifery to achieve your ambitions and excel as a leader.

The post holder is responsible to the Deputy Head of Midwifery (DHOM) and will work closely with senior midwives, senior nurses, midwives, nurses and colleagues within the multi-disciplinary team in order to deliver and develop high quality, safe clinical services within budget. Under the leadership of the DHOM the post holder will contribute to the delivery of key national targets in accordance with the Trust’s performance management framework.

The post holder will be highly visible in their clinical area in order to lead the development of clinical standards and midwifery practice, new roles and advanced practice in line with the delivery and redesign of hospital services. The post holder will spend a percentage of their working time in clinical practice in order to maintain a clinical presence both within and out of hours.

They will work as part of a clinical leadership team consisting of clinical directors, patient service managers and matrons. The post holder is responsible for the delivery of evidence-based clinical standards, ensuring high quality care, and providing effective leadership and management of all midwifery staff in their area.

The following lists outlines some of the responsibilities of the role (not exhaustive):
Within designated wards/clinical departments, the post holder will work in collaboration with members of the Directorate leadership team including ward managers, specialist midwives, clinical nurse specialists, multidisciplinary team and corporate staff, exercising effective leadership in order to ensure the:
Delivery of high safe quality care that aims to deliver an extraordinary patient experience in line with the Airedale ANHSFT Right Care Strategy, providing expert maternity advice and leadership so that specific needs of service users are addressed with the delegated wards/ clinical departments

Implementation of appropriate National Service Framework(s)

Promotion of service and role redesign to achieve the overall Divisional strategy

Integrated and effective care pathways for patients

Systems are in place to ensure that families are treated with dignity and respect.

Best practice in infection prevention and control

Investigation of and response to incidents in accordance with ANHST risk management and clinical governance policies and procedures

Effective engagement with Patient Advice and Liaison Service responding to PALs in a timely fashion

Promotion of effective involvement with service users

Be a credible clinical role model

Promote initiatives for developing midwifery practice, skills and role redesign, including the development of advanced clinical practice and the development of new roles

Contribute to the delivery of Trust maternity strategy and initiatives

The post holder is responsible for people and resource management for designated wards/clinical departments
