Taylor & Francis, a leading international academic publishing company, has an exciting opportunityforapermanentCommissioningEditor(Journals) to join the expanding Medicine and Healthcare team. Reporting to the Commissioning Team Manager,thisroleisresponsiblefor the commissioning of content for a set of defined journals within theMedicine & HealthcareExpert Collection Series, with a specific focus on journals that are converting to Open Access. Conversion to Open Access is a new direction for the Expert Collectionjournals, so there will also be scope for forging new strategies and working practices within the role.

This is an ideal role for someone who has a genuine interest/background inbiomedical or biologicalscience, and who enjoys the process of researching relevant scientific literature and commissioning ideas for new articles.
**What you'll be doing**:

- Setting out short-, medium
- and long-term commissioning strategies for supporting conversion of journals to Open Access
- Working in partnership with colleagues to create journal development plans and achieve goals and targets set out in journal development plans
- Commissioning high quality and relevant content for two assigned journals in the Expert Collection, including dedicated special issues and article collections
- Delivering content to specified timelines and quality standards according to the strategies and timetables set out by the Commissioning Team Manager
- Building and maintaining close relationships with authors, editorial boards and key opinion leaders
- Building detailed knowledge of relevant therapy areas, including key topics of interest and developments in the field
- Maintaining oversight of peer review and ensuring that itis carried out to specific quality standards according to editorial policies
- Being responsible for decision making on manuscripts using peer review comments and Editorial Board input where necessary
- Ensuring all relevant guidelines and policies are followed, including editorial policies, ethical policies and disclosure information
- Maintaining commitment tobecoming anexpert in relevanttherapy areas and building own profile in the those area(s), through networking, social media andvirtual/ in person (when travel is allowed)conference attendance
- Becoming known and trusted by members of the research community in the assigned therapy area(s)

**What we're looking for**:

- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience in an Open Access publishing environment desirable
- Creativity and a genuine curiosity for the Medicine and Healthcare industry
- Experience with problem solving, initiating debate, ensuring ideas are explored and implemented if appropriate
- Excellent team-working skills
- Drive for results and a self-starter
- Strong independent time management and ability to prioritise own workload to meet deadlines
- Excellent organisational skills
