We are looking for a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established engineering R&D company based in Bedfordshire and specialising on development, planning, manufacturing and testing of a range of high precision products. The company is focusingon developing brand new disruptive technology which are helping to revolutionise high precision engineering companies in industries such as Aerospace, Space, Defence, Automotive, etc. The ideal Lead Mechanical Engineer will have leadership experience in atechnical project-based environment with knowledge of mechanical design, modern manufacturing techniques and production procedures as well as excellent attention to detail.

**Lead Mechanical Design Engineer's responsibilities**:

- Manage the design team, design reviews and approval process.
- Support project delivery plans, participate in project planning process and cost estimation.
- Assisting in developing operational strategies for continual improvement including design methods, processes, systems, design for manufacturing/assembly/test.
- Assist individual and team reviews, support the apprenticeship programme.
- Maintain Hardware and Software inventory, ensure all design data is managed, stored and organised consistently.
- Compliance with Quality Standards and be an advocate for Continuous Improvement
- Compliance with Health and Safety, Environmental procedures and site security procedures.

**Lead Mechanical Engineer's requirements**:

- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent practical experience in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Demonstrated recent and relevant leadership experience in mechanical design within a R&D environment.
- Knowledge of design, manufacturing and production procedures, machines, tools and inspection techniques
- Experience in 2D and 3D CAD systems, preferably CATIA V5.
- Be prepared for travel and out-of-hours working from time to time.
- Experience in management and ability to support more junior engineers and technical staff.
- Be commercially aware and manage client relationships.
- Strong problem solving and excellent time management skills, excellent communication skills.

Location: Bedfordshire (commutable from Bedford, St. Neots, Luton, Royston, Milton Keynes, Cambridge etc.)
