We are currently recruiting for a Deputy Editor to join our team on a 12-month maternity contract.
This role is in our Magazine team, which is part of the Marketing team, in the Communications and Marketing directorate.
As a key part of our small, friendly team, you’ll work extensively with colleagues both centrally and extensively across the whole of the National Trust.

Alternatively you can enjoy our open plan atrium space for lunch times, with our internal café available every day.
This post is contractually based at our offices in Swindon but there will be an opportunity to explore and agree remote working arrangements which strike the right balance for you and the Trust. As a guide, presence in the office is expected 3-5 days per month.
What you'll be doing:This varied role will see you involved in every element of the magazine process. You will:
- Support and deputise for the editor
- Create, develop and edit engaging and inspiring print and digital magazine content
- Take responsibility for production cycle of the magazine, with the editor’s support
- Manage the magazine team day-to-day
- Build and manage relationships internally and externally.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:
- Experience of managing the flow of content between the sub-editor, proof-reader, picture researcher, designers, digital and audio production teams
- Excellent, demonstrable experience as a feature editor, deputy editor or similar
- An understanding of what it takes to make a good magazine and is comfortable leading for editorial house style and familiar with all core publishing processes and legislation
- Experience leading, supporting and line-managing
- Budget management experience
- Exceptional judgement and the knack of knowing when to act and when to seek additional support Strong stakeholder engagement and exposure of working with confidently information.
We’re particularly interested to hear from applicants with experience of and interest in optimising print content for digital magazines.
