**Point of Care Testing Senior BMS**
**HCA Laboratories, Shropshire House, Capper Street**
**37.5 hours per week**
We are looking for a Senior Biomedical Scientist to work in our Point of Care Testing department (POCT), which includes blood and urine testing performed in the clinical setting by patient-facing healthcare professionals, typically nurses and doctors.
Common examples of POCT include blood glucose monitoring, warfarin management, urine screening and blood gas analysis. POCT devices are located throughout the HCA Facilities including wards, clinics, operating theatres, community clinics and outreach settings.
**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Work with the POCT Manager, colleagues in HCA Laboratories and HCA Facilities to deliver a safe and effective POCT service, which reflects HCA Healthcare corporate initiatives and UKAS ISO 15189:2012, ISO 22870:2016 and MHRA requirements.
- Promote, support, and carry out the training and development requirements throughout all aspects of POCT operations and activities.
- Support and guide to attain and maintain UKAS accreditation of the POCT services, liaising with all organisational departments, to facilitate this essential next step in the delivery of exceptional care.
- Be a member of the POCT Committee, contributing to the management of the POCT service in line with HCA POCT policy.
- Be expected to work autonomously, whilst maintaining clear lines of communication and dialogue with the POCT manager to ensure delivery of a safe and effective POCT service.
- Ensure delivery of an appropriate and effective internal quality control (IQC) programme for POCT devices under the governance of HCA Laboratories.
- Ensure all POCT devices under the auspices of HCA Laboratories are identified and enrolled in the appropriate External Quality Assurance (EQA) programmes.
- Provide technical expertise in the event of POCT device failure.
- Assist with the verification of new POCT devices to ensure data is suitable for assessment against appropriate accreditation and POCT standards (e.g. UKAS, CQC, MHRA).
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with HCA and non-HCA colleagues to promote the effectiveness of the HCA POCT service.
- Help develop a comprehensive training programme for POCT consistent with the HCA Healthcare Learning and Development Strategy, to ensure that all hospital staff using POCT devices are adequately trained and competent.
- In conjunction with the Quality Manager, review and update the design of POCT documents, such as standard operating procedures (SOPs), risk assessments and training materials.
- Assist with the training of new POCT Team members.
- Contribute to the development of the One HCA UK POCT strategy as part of the wider senior laboratory team.
- Assist with the implementation of new POCT devices (including review of requests for POCT) and liaise with key stakeholders to ensure seamless introduction of new services.
**Skills & Experience**
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
- Evidence of further professional development to Master’s Degree level or equivalent experience
- Experience of working within POCT
- High level of understanding of quality assurance procedures and troubleshooting quality failures
- Participation of ISO:15189 laboratory accreditation
- Experience of verification of POCT devices, including production of data and reports
