The post holder will manage their own caseload, work autonomously in the fast track clinics and provide support for breast screening assessment. They will be expected to carry out the full range of mammographic and ultrasound examinations and produce independent reports. They will undertake mammography reporting for the screening and symptomatic services.

The postholder will be expected to work towards development into the role of Consultant Radiographer, Band 8b, completing professional accreditation in the future.

The successful applicant will contribute to the further development of the breast imaging service and work closely with the Clinical Director, Director of screening and Breast Imaging Manager towards the operational and strategic developments within the department.

To work alongside Consultant Radiologists in the Breast Imaging team as an expert practitioner within symptomatic and assessment clinics.

To act as an autonomous practitioner to carry out the full range of mammographic and ultrasound examinations across all patient pathways to a consistently high standard and produce high quality, independent reports ensuring compliance with imaging protocols.

To report a minimum of 5,000 mammograms per annum in line with NHSBSP standards and follow-up and family history mammograms.

To provide professional opinion on images and impart highly complex information to professional colleagues within multidisciplinary team meetings, justifying interpretation and advising on patient diagnosis.

Exercise a high degree of professional and personal autonomy, acting as a Specialist Practitioner, demonstrating advanced clinical competence, decision making and a knowledge base beyond those associated with conventional advanced practice roles, thereby acting as an expert in their field.

Communicate complex and sensitive information to patients and clients in a professional manner at all times, explaining procedures and obtaining consent when necessary.

The Breast Imaging department is part of the Medical Imaging and Medical Physics directorate within Sheffield Teaching Hopsitals NHS foundation Trust. As a department we provide a high quality, responsive Breast Imaging Service for population screening and the Symptomatic Breast Service in Sheffield. We strive to deliver the highest standard of patient care which addresses clinical and holistic needs in a safe and pleasant environment.

The department responds efficiently and maintains NHSBSP targets for the expanding screening population of Sheffield which is currently 80,000 and meets the two week wait for Symptomatic Breast Assessment.

We aim to develop and maintain excellent multi-disciplinary working relationships, which will provide an excellent service for the women of Sheffield.
