This project is funded by the Government's Species Survival Fund. It supports the creation and restoration of wildlife-rich habitats throughout the Medlock Valley in Manchester, Oldham and Tameside. The project is a significant milestone in Groundwork’s ambition to deliver large scale nature recovery projects, supporting Greater Manchester’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy. The Trainee Ranger will support the day-to-day delivery of the project, working with the Ranger Supervisor and other team members to carry out the practical work programme of the Medlock Valley Restoration Project. You will support other delivery teams across Groundwork, undertaking green space improvements and path installation for community-based organisations such as schools or community allotments.

**Workload Delivery**
- Undertake a range of groundworks on site as directed by Ranger Supervisor including:

- Grassland management
- Invasive non-native species control
- Improving access to green spaces, rivers and ponds through the repair and restoration of steps and paths
- Supporting our partners in the delivery of woodland management, river restoration and installation of natural flood management techniques
- Ensure that all works are completed in line with relevant risk assessments, method statements and work instructions
- Ensure high standards of housekeeping at all times both on site and at depots and storage areas.

**Operational Maintenance**
- Assist in the care and maintenance of vehicles, tools and equipment. Ensure that security protocols are followed including health and safety guidelines. Demonstrate understanding through correct equipment usage and tool storage
- Organise materials and equipment for delivery of works, ensuring materials stored safely when not in use.

**People Development**
- Maintain positive relationships with customers, stakeholders and other members of the public affected by works on site
- Share skills and knowledge with others
- Embed GGM’s culture and values through behaviour at work
- Support the effective operation and improvement of services delivered through compliance with all Trust policies and procedures with a particular focus on health and safety including method statements, work instructions and risk assessments and our environmental management system.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Temporary contract
Contract length: 18 months

Pay: £22,876.00 per year
