- **Job description**_

To undertake general maintenance duties to the prescribed standards as detailed in the site specification including:

- Opening gates, doors and shutters
- Checking /switching on heating (where applicable)
- Checking grounds for hazards and litter and making safe and tidy etc.
- Check in at office for messages, minor jobs, removal of hazards etc.
- Check grounds are secure and safe
- Check hand towels, toilet rolls and dispensers and replenish where needed
- Take waste to skips and assist cleaners to clear waste from corridors
- Lock up including windows, doors and lights off
- **Weekly Tasks**:

- Check fire alarm and safety equipment is in good working order
- Sweep overhangs/paths etc.
- Inspection of outdoor play equipment and reporting hazards to office
- **Occasional/non-routine tasks**
- Locking and unlocking outside of normal times e.g. Saturdays and school holidays
- Remedying site issues e.g. excrement, vomit on carpets, glass, etc.
- Reporting electrical faults or items requiring a plumber or ‘handyman’ to office
- Moving furniture as and when required e.g. during decorating or for disposal
- Sweeping the paths, clearing leaves etc.
- Gritting during bad weather
- Putting out/putting away furniture and chairs for events
- Telling the office when cleaning supplies need ordering
- Taking minor items to tip as required
- Remedying deficiencies such as leaks, Painting, decorating and minor repairs e.g. putting up notice boards or shelves
- Assembling garden furniture and flat pack items
- Repairs as a result of vandalism or thefts from school
- Health and Safety walkabouts/ responding to H & S reports

As a caretaker, you will be looking after Bishop Road Primary school and will complete a range of caretaking tasks in a safe and effective manner, promptly reporting any issues and safety hazards. Your safety is very important to us, so we will make sure that you’re aware of our latest policies and will provide the necessary training required to carry out your role.
