**Role of PRISON CUSTODY OFFICER (PCO)**

Paterson Health and Social Care’s expanding Perms team are very excited to be recruiting for the role of Prison Custody Officers working with Care and Justice Service to help them recruit for their new prison in Northampton-shire.

POSITION Prison Custody Officer - Northampton-shire.

Starting salary: - £27, 667.28

Hours: 39 - 44 per week.
- Permanent, Full-Time position, working various shifts over a 7-day period,
- Negotiations re P/T positions after completion of training and vetting.
- Days, nights, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
- 13-hour shift longest shift.
- 11 Weeks of training ensuring you are equipped for the role.

Aim is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into society on their release. Normalising prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. The aim is to create an environment in which staff and residents feel safe.

The individuals in your care will have a variety of different needs and it will be your role to ensure those individuals are treated with dignity and respect and helped to find a new way of life whilst maintaining a safe, secure, and structured environment.

You will have a number of key responsibilities that assist Prisoners reform, as well as playing a key role in providing them with structure and routine, making sure they get to work on time in the morning, are actively engaging in education and the prison regime and are secure in their cells during head counts and in the evenings.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**

Prisoner Custody Officers (PCOs) are key in the effective running of the prison and working as a Prison Custody Officer, you would get involved in making sure the prison is safe and secure as well as assisting prisoner’s reform. we are looking for people who can fit naturally into this role.

You would also play a key role in giving structure and routine. You would be dealing with a wide variety of people as well as following policies and procedures in line with training and regulations.

**SOME DUTIES OF A PRISON CUSTODY OFFICER INCLUDE**:

- Ensuring the prison is safe and secure at all times, ensuring compliance with safe working procedures
- Ensuring all residents are accounted for each day - checking on their wellbeing as well as their presence
- Making sure residents attend work, education or other activities as required
- Securing residents in their rooms.
- Searching residents, rooms, and premises, confiscating prohibited items, and completing all relevant paperwork
- Helping residents to address offending behaviour whilst reinforcing positive behaviour
- Acting as a role model, demonstrating positive behaviours, and always behaving in line with our company values
- Supporting and protecting residents who are experiencing difficulties
- Contributing to the control of incidents and emergencies when required
- Maintaining residents records, documentation, and reports
- Escorting residents to hospital appointments and other locations

**SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE**
- A checkable personal history including periods of education, employment, travel, and unemployment
- Ability to build trust with others and who are trustworthy, objective, and consistent in their approach
- Ability to keep calm under pressure
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, connecting with people from different backgrounds
- Ability to closely follow processes and procedures
- Attention to detail and alert to any changes that may indicate an increased risk or unusual situation

Your initial training lasts for 11 weeks, Initial Training Course (ITC) where you will receive comprehensive training, some of which will include: - Control & Restraint, First Aid at work, Interpersonal skills, and Health & Safety Human rights.

Fully supported by training manager and staff within the facility.
