The Tree Surgeon/Climber’s duties include reporting to the Director or Foreman, to undertake the maintenance of trees to ensure their health, safety and attractive condition including planting, fertilising, watering, pruning, felling and the removal of any dead, diseased or declining trees and shrubs using full safety and climbing equipment, various equipment (Chainsaws, Chippers etc.), maintaining tools and equipment, and ensuring hazard-free work areas. You should be able to work with a variety of crew members.
To be successful as a Tree Surgeon, you should be physically strong and able to work in extreme weather conditions. You should be able to carry out instructions efficiently and complete all maintenance tasks to the highest standard.
**Responsibilities**:
- To carry out tree surgery and tree felling operations to a high standard following all relevant health & safety procedures to ensure the safety of the client/public and other colleagues.
- To be able to carry out an aerial rescue safely and efficiently and to administer first aid if necessary.
- To be able to identify tree species and the common diseases.
- Understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
- Operate machinery including chainsaws, chippers, stump grinders and access equipment and undertake daily/weekly safety checks and maintenance operations
- Ensure all sites are kept clean and free of hazards
- Inspect equipment and tools and perform repairs and maintenance when required
- Safely and correctly operate machinery/tools using the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and observe health and safety protocols
- Report any issues or safety hazards to the Foreman or other relevant parties
- Adhere to company Health, Safety and environmental regulations at all times
**Requirements**:
**Essential**
- Previous work experience as a Tree Surgeon/Second Climber or similar
- Good physical strength, fitness, vision, and hearing
- The ability to transport heavy items
- Excellent balance and depth perception
- Superb communication skills
- The ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- The willingness to work during unfavourable weather conditions
- A positive attitude
- A good team member
- NPTC Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting (CS30)
- Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross-Cutting
- Felling & Processing Trees up to 380mm
- Access a Tree using a Rope and Harness & Aerial Tree Rescue
- Aerial Cutting of Trees with a Chainsaw using Free-Fall Techniques
- A full UK driving licence
- Previous climbing and industry experience
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills and customer service skills, positive attitude, self-motivated and high attention to detail
Desirable
- Towing License (B+E or Pre97) preferred
