**Band 4**: Assistant Speech & Language Therapist: Intensive Community Assessment and Treatment Team (ICATT) (North & South)

2 days (0.4 wte/ 15hrs) permanent contract

You will be well supported by senior colleagues, with many opportunities for peer support. The role involves close work with colleagues from a range of disciplines and the post is supported by qualified Speech & Language Therapists based across the services.

You will be required to have a relevant qualification at equivalent level of NVQ level 3. You will need to demonstrate an ability to work flexibly, motivate, show initiative, work as part of a team under the direction of the Speech & Language Therapy team based across the settings.

The Speech & Language Therapy team strive towards achieving the 5 Good Communication Standards on the unit. The Speech & Language Therapy Assistant post supports this work with patients as well as playing a key role in developing adapted resources and modelling communication strategies.

You will need planning and organisational skills to organise your day-to-day work tasks and give direction around communication to other team members. You will liaise closely with other health and social care professionals as well as with patients’ family and carers, therefore excellent communication skills are essential.

To provide agreed support to adults with intellectual disabilities, their families, carers and the multi-disciplinary team.

Specifically, this will relate to the communication needs of an individual, and subsequent environmental needs. Support may be for individuals, environments or providers and is under the direction of qualified Speech and Language Therapists but often delivered without direct supervision, across different multi-agency day and residential settings.

The role requires experience of working with intellectual disabilities, their families and carers.

Well-developed IT skills are essential.

The post holder needs excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work confidently and effectively with service users, families and inpatient/ residential/ day services staff.
