The Estates department at Worthing General Hospital are looking for an enthusiastic Skilled Painter who has eye for detail and is keen to learn and grow their career within the Estates maintenance team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
You will be working in a friendly team made up of Mechanical Engineers, Electricians, Joiners/Builders, who are responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive planned and reactive maintenance service across the Trusts estate, working responsively and effectively to a high standard.
You will be carrying out a wide range of painting & decorating duties across site including maintenance and up keeping of plant associated with running a large hospital. In addition you will also have responsibility for general undertaking of reactive and planned preventive maintenance to ensure our site remains fully compliant to HTM's.
You will also be engaging in a wide range of other duties and tasks as instructed by the Building Maintenance Chargehand when required.
Our Estates teams provide maintenance, repair, improvement and engineering support across the Trust. Their work takes them to all corners of our sites to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for all our staff and patients.
A technical knowledge and understanding of the following core skill areas are required:
- To interpret and work from all verbal and written instructions, drawings and specifications appropriate to the decorating trade.
- Be able to use all relevant tools and equipment required for decorating.
- Learn new decorating techniques as required.
- Have some understanding of the relationship of other craftsperson’s work to his/her own.
- Instruct others on aspects of his/her work relating to the decorating trade.
- Work from ladders and fixed or portable scaffolding at high levels.
- Application of all types of paint, preservative and varnish both internally and externally.
- Glazing repairs.
- Minor repairs using proprietary fillers.
- Wall washing in Wards and Operating Theatres.
- Sign writing.
- Application of wall and lining papers.
- Spray painting.
- Glazed tiling (new and repairs).
