**Role**:Food Technologist

**Purpose**:

- To provide a customer-facing, technical-focused team ensuring food product quality and safety is both maintained and further developed

**Main Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Act as technical expert across the Defence Food Team.
- Product identification, development and specification.
- Specify products to meet the customer requirement across multiple suppliers.
- Ensure products procured are safe, legal and compliant to Defence Food Quality Standards.
- Liaison with food suppliers to identify common commercial food products.
- Identify and implement product innovation across the Defence Food contracts.
- Optimise the Core Ranges for the benefit of the MOD.
- Manage all product changes and concessions to ensure continuity in the supply chain and to meet customer requirements.
- Provide assistance to the customer in resolving item queries.
- Undertake the monthly item and price change process, ensuring it is delivered promptly and accurately
- Liaise with the Commercial team to ensure that pricing is in line with contractual obligations.
- Arrange and Manage food selection panels and range reviews with suppliers and customers in accordance with relevant Contract Terms and Conditions in order to taste and select existing and new products for potential inclusion in Core Price List or within Ration Packs.
- Manage and resolve day to day issues with suppliers timely and effectively.
- Support the Category team with developing the sourcing strategy to meet business objectives.
- Support strategic supplier negotiations and contribute to regular contractor reviews.
- Support the Quality Assurance Manager in tender evaluations and with the development and maintenance of technical documentation.
- Attend relevant industry meetings and exhibitions and maintain professional memberships to maintain and enhance technical knowledge.

**Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience**:

- Qualified to HNC or equivalent in a Food Science and Technology discipline.
- Prior Product Development experience would be beneficial.
- Has an understanding of and strong ability to lead Food Selection Panels.
- Ability to evaluate market changes and justify food price fluctuations.
- Ability to develop and manipulate balanced menu and nutritional requirements within commercial constraints.
- Attention to detail and ability to meet business critical deadlines through systematic organisation of priorities.
- Computer literate - experience in using Microsoft Word, Excel and databases.
- Contract management experience within the food industry sector.
- A working knowledge of a supply chain end to end process.
