**Summary**

The Athenaeum is a private members institution in Liverpool city centre, founded 1797 to ensure the up-to-date provision of newspapers and pamphlets, and to create a library for the use of the merchants and professional men of the city. This required subscribers to buy shares in the 'Institution' and hence the names 'Proprietor' are used rather than 'club' and 'member'. Early Proprietors of the club included "entrepreneurs, slavery-abolitionists, free-thinkers, and political radicals, who regarded themselves as the commercial and intellectual champions of Liverpool". Today the Athenaeum continues to function as a private members institution, and its Proprietors include men and women with membership limited to 500 people. The Athenaeum is open for the use of Proprietors and includes social programmes, special interest groups for history, literature, music, and for wine tasting. The building may be hired for use by Proprietors, or by outside individuals and groups.

**The role**

To work with the Premises Team in all matters relating to the cleaning and presentation of the Athenaeum’s Clubhouse. Whilst ensuring that the institution’s facilities follow the presentation standards and compliance policies of the Athenaeum. You will work in partnership with colleagues to maintain our high presentation standards.

This role will be for 16 hours per week. From time-to-time additional hours may be required in line with the needs of the business. It is offered as a permanent contract.

**You will be responsible for**:the day to day cleaning of both the Athenaeum’s front and back of house spaces, to ensure we offer the highest standards of presentation for our Proprietors and guests.

Responsibilities will including cleaning the premises in line with specifications provided, as well as ad-hoc cleaning when necessary. The Athenaeum is a heritage building and as such heritage cleaning procedures are required.

**What you will deliver**:It’s about supporting the operation of the Athenaeum to deliver a great experience for Proprietors, visitors, and the Athenaeum team, to ensure they get the best out of the institution and its facilities with clean member spaces. You will make checks and report damaged equipment or any general deficiency in standards of furnishings, decorative finishes, and equipment so that remedial action can be taken.

**It’s about consistent delivery**:You will follow guidance and Athenaeum policies & procedures to ensure that our Proprietor spaces are cleaned to agreed standards, you will support excellent standards of presentation, record keeping, cleaning and housekeeping.

**It’s about building teamwork**:You will be an excellent team player working alongside the operations team and other colleagues, sharing knowledge and information, helping to create a great place to work and providing cover for colleagues. You will contribute to housekeeping stocktaking duties when required.

**It's about working safely and securely**:You will comply with the Athenaeums procedures to manage risk to yourself, other team members, Proprietors, visitors, and contractors. Be aware of and adhere to all policies on H&S including COSHH (Control of substances hazardous to health) and fire safety procedures, hot work permits, plant & equipment inspections. When required you will test fire alarms, emergency lighting weekly and maintain corresponding records. Ensure boiler checks are carried out during the heating season.

**It's about efficiency & training**:When required you will ensure that deliveries dealt with promptly and items are repositioned to an appropriate space within the building. You will be efficient in the use of cleaning products and contribute to cost savings and energy efficiency. Storerooms will be always well stocked and secure. The relevant compliance training courses will be attended.

**Scale & scope of the role.**

**Reports to**:Club Secretary who is the Proprietor Services lead.

**Financial Responsibility**: May be required for buying supplies and reclaiming expenses.

**Line Management**: There is no line management responsibility with this role. There is a responsibility for positive, active engagement with all Proprietors, visitors and all staff teams.

**Area of Impact**: Responsible for high standards of presentation.

**Nature of impact**:To work under supervision, but able to use own initiative on day-to-day duties and routine decisions

**Internal/External Relationships**: Interacts with all members and visitors to the Athenaeum. Key relationships with other Athenaeum teams, Proprietor Services, Food & Beverage, and Facilities’ Teams. Key relationships with members, visitors, suppliers, contractors, and neighbours.
