Wigan, United Kingdom Wigan Council Full time

- Fostering

**Wigan Council**

***

**Please note that this is consultancy role and you will not be employed directly by Wigan Council**

**Working from Progress House / Wigan Life Centre South/Home**

**Salary: £300 per panel**

**Weekly panels minimum 2 x per month. Maximum 48 per year**

We are making great strides here in Wigan to make our fostering service even better. As finalists in the national Children and Young People awards last year and with strong performance data, we have lots to celebrate and we want to further develop a consistent trauma informed, therapeutic approach in all our carers. Listen to Supported through the Storm poem, inspired by our Million Voices children’s group. See links below.

In recognition of our developing service and as a result of a whole council commitment to fostering, we now need an Independent Panel Vice Chair.

**Your role**:
Wigan Council is seeking to appoint an independent Fostering Panel Vice Chair. This role is independent from Wigan Council and paid on a set day rate of £300 per panel. This rate is inclusive of preparation time and work. We will be holding weekly panels. There is an expectation for you to be available for at least two panels per month to support consistency.

The Panel Vice Chair must be committed to supporting our aim to provide high quality foster care and achieving the best possible outcomes for our children.
- the authority and competence to chair the panel (if required).
- the ability to analyse and explain complex information.
- the ability to identify key issues, problems, and solutions.
- excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

**About you**:
You will be a passionate and motivated practitioner who appreciates the importance of supporting some of our most vulnerable children to be cared for within fostering families if they are unable to remain with parents. You will have excellent communication and assessment skills. You will have strong interpersonal skills to lead and summarise panel discussions and recommendations. You will be a team player and be able to see the strengths in all you encounter with a keen commitment to problem solve innovatively.

**About us**:
Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards and has recently published The Deal 2030, our ambitious plan for our borough. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

You will be joining a busy, proactive and expanding service which strives to support Wigan’s children to live in family settings where they cannot live with parents. You will be joining at a time of growth and exciting development as we have had additional investment to grow our thriving fostering service.

Wigan is a great place to work, and as a Local Authority, we truly value and recognise our staff as its greatest asset. We are ambitious about our offer to Wigan’s children and young people and our shared goal is to ensure that young people have accommodation options that prepare them for adulthood. Through our “BeWigan” behaviours, Be Courageous, Be Accountable and Be Positive, we actively encourage innovation, strive to deliver outstanding services and celebrate our successes.

Here at Wigan, we are proud to support flexible working patterns, when the service can accommodate this. We also take a blended approach to where we work, depending on the work we do. This may include working from home (My Place), the office (Our Place) or the community (Your Place). We like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits click here to find out more about working for #TeamWigan.
