**Job Summary**

The main purpose of this role is to manage day to day commodity trading activities in line with strategies, develop new and improve existing strategies in line with industry developments, supporting or representing the Trading team at external meetings and evidencing savings through portfolio enhancements. The ability to build strong personal working relationships is crucial to the effectiveness of the role. The post holder will provide technical knowledge and support to the overall energy team.

**Team Summary**

The Energy team currently manages an annual £2.4bn electricity and gas spend on behalf of more than 1100 customers. At the time of writing, it can have commodity spend under management of approximately £3bn+ when forward years are factored in. Within the Energy team, we have a Trading team established to manage market exposure in line with strategies agreed with our external governance board. Trading is conducted for both aggregated portfolios and for individual organisations.

The portfolio of customers is increasing along with its range of solutions and therefore additional Senior Traders are required to ensure that the portfolio is managed to deliver excellent outcomes and deliver value for money.

**Job description**:
**Key Responsibilities**
- Effectively and proactively manage electricity and gas volumes in accordance to risk strategies for multiple products
- Ensure strategy gates, and risk metrics and risk controls are understood and adhered to
- Work with suppliers to optimise aggregated demand and shapes to the benefit of the end customer
- Ensuring expert level understanding of UK power and gas markets and in-depth understanding of related market drivers, UK and internationally
- Contribute to the wider team understanding of market fundamentals and technical analysis and execute forward hedging strategies
- Ensure standard monthly, quarterly and annual trading reports are issued and all reference documents are maintained and updated as appropriate
- Coordinate and work with colleagues, customers and other bodies (if appropriate) to build and develop expertise to the highest industry standards
- Support, and represent if required, the Head of Trading Energy on presentations to and meetings with key stakeholders e.g. External Governance Panel, strategy reviews, customer engagement events, and supplier events
- Engage regularly, and as required in external locations, with teams within government, key stakeholders and suppliers promoting knowledge sharing and consistent processes for building commodity price projections
- Review energy markets and available products as part of evaluation of energy purchasing opportunities and quantifying benefits/risks

**Person specification**:

- Energy trading experience
- Demonstrable understanding of the workings of European gas, power, carbon commodity markets and experience of modelling commodity markets/drivers
- Experience of writing high quality reports for internal and/or external stakeholder consumption
- Proven understanding of wholesale markets: OTC & exchanges
- Understanding of the impact of external commodity and non commodity drivers on modelling long term pricing
- Experience of leading and successfully transferring specialist knowledge to team members and customer groups
