Babraham, United Kingdom Babraham Institute Full time

Job Advert

We are seeking an enthusiastic Research Assistant, reporting in to Nicholas Ktistakis in the Signalling programme at the Babraham Institute, who will be working in collaboration with the group of Professor Masashi Narita at Cancer Research UK, University of Cambridge.

The RA will work on a collaborative project (together with Prof Narita and others) aiming to understand the heterogeneity of senescent or age-associated cells using cutting edge single-cell and multi-omics datasets. Lack of basic understanding of what constitutes senescence, in these diverse settings, impairs our ability to understand its role in organismal biology, and to modulate it for our benefit. The post holder will be part of an ambitious collaborative project that looks to characterise senescent or age-associated cells from different settings including metabolic and oncogenic stress, DNA damage, and neural disorders, helping to build a comprehensive “Senescent Cell Atlas”.

The post holder will play a central role in our research programme, generating and analysing large and complex datasets. The post is envisaged to be partly computational but will also include working with primary cells and induced pluripotent stem cells to generate multi-omics libraries for single cell sequencing. In addition to conducting his/her research in the areas outlined above, the post holder will help with general lab maintenance and other laboratory activities. S/he will benefit from the Institute’s world-leading expertise in signalling and epigenetics, from our excellent research facilities, and from existing external collaborations within the UK and internationally.

This is a limited term appointment with funding for this post expected to be available for 30 months.

A full job specification and role requirements can be found attached to this vacancy.

The Institute has joined the Technician Commitment initiative, which is a commitment to support the recognition, visibility, sustainability and career development of our research support community, which includes the BSU, Scientific Facilities, Computing, Stores & Purchasing, Technical Services, Health & Safety and the Research Assistant communities.
