**PURPOSE OF JOB**: To support teachers and pastoral staff in addressing the needs of students

who need help in overcoming barriers to learning. These may include

using strategies to; improve attendance; raise standards of behaviour,

improve punctuality, and building their resilience.

**RESPONSIBLE TO**: The Head Teacher in all matters and to the relevant Head of Faculty or

Line Manager.

**EMPLOYMENT DUTIES**:
The job description should be considered with due regard to the school's staffing structure and the

school's corporate plan.

**Main Duties**
- To improve the attendance of students who fall below the expectations of the school
- To improve the punctuality of students who consistently arrive late to school
- To improve the behaviour of students who fail to comply with the school behaviour expectations
- To support students who are experiencing low esteem
- To support supports to build their resilience
- Using school procedures to contact families and provide support where appropriate to improve

attendance and punctuality.
- To provide a 1:1 mentoring relationship with students who are in need of support for learning.
- To deliver Behaviour Correction modules to students
- To work alongside teachers and support staff to promote the effective use of behaviour

management strategies.
- To liaise with school Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator, Education Social Workers and

other statutory and voluntary agencies to access all forms of support.
Follow school procedures in maintaining regular contact with families/carers of students in need

of support, keeping them informed of needs and progress, with the purpose of securing family

support and involvement. This will include developing knowledge of Child Protection

procedures.
- To work with teachers to provide support for students and their families who join the school

during the course of an academic year.
- Assist with the supervision of students in the absence of teachers, including cover supervision.

- Assist with incidents, and take statements from students
- To assist with the invigilation of examinations.
- To assist with supervision of students who have an extended school
- To enforce school rules, in particular uniform and behaviour expectations
- To help supervise students, including during break times.
- Keeping a daily diary of events including work completed, behaviour, general comments.
- Taking part (with the teacher) in discussions with parents if required.
- Accompanying and supervising children on outings or at breaktimes.
- Assist with general administration and clerical work to support the teacher or the pupils.
- To refer any safeguarding concerns to the Safeguarding Team.

**Additional duties**
- To be based in the Phoenix Centre.
- To deliver enrichment/Cultural Capital activities during Period 5 as agreed by the Phoenix

Manager
- To meet with Post and present Phoenix students and discuss the strategies that students are using

as highlighted in their presentation during Period 4.
- To provide 1:1 mentoring with students who need support for learning during morning and

afternoon registrations
- To work with teachers and students to devise, implement and evaluate student daily reviews
- To liaise with the relevant staff to ensure adequate work has been set for each student and that the

work has been completed
- To ensure that all students follow the school’s assessment policy and to ensure assessments and

classwork has been marked
- To support the implementation of enrichment individuals or small groups of students, e.g. running

support groups as necessary and appropriate.
- To work alongside teachers and support staff to promote the effective use of behaviour

management strategies.
- To liaise with school Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator, Education Social Workers and

other statutory and voluntary agencies to access all forms of provision.
- To work with students with their panel presentation to ensure a successful transition back to the

main school.
