**The Role**

We’re recruiting a Suicide Safer Schools Project Worker to support delivery of a schools based suicide prevention training programme with pupils, parents and parents, as well as co-production of programme materials.

We are one of a small number of organisations delivering suicide prevention training within school settings at scale. Our work will contribute to a growing evidence base demonstrating the impact of prevention training and whole system approaches in schools, and will support the growing momentum of calls to include suicide prevention with the national curriculum.

**Hours and Location**

Flexible hours, 4 or 5 days a week, all year round.

You will be home based, will be expected to travel widely across Cumbria, and will be expected to attend our Shap office regularly for meetings with other staff. You would be welcome to work in the office 2-3 days if you would like the company of colleagues, or from home when not delivering training.

**Salary**

The full time equivalent starting salary £28,000 - £32,000. Actual salary will depend on number of contracted days per week.

**About you**

We need a highly organised individual with bags of enthusiasm and resilience. Super communication skills and an ability to confidently and enthusiastically communicate about suicide and mental health with young people. Excellent IT skills and a very keen eye for detail, and an ability to manage a diverse and dynamic workload.

We also require someone who has experience of teaching, training delivery or significant group facilitation experience with young people.

We do though appreciate that suicide prevention training generally, and more specifically within a school environment, is a specialist area. Therefore, the postholder will have the opportunity in their first few months to significantly develop their knowledge and understanding of suicide and suicide prevention, and to develop their own training delivery skills across mental health, suicide prevention and self-harm, with a view to contributing to delivery of the programme to adults as well as young people.

We work to create suicide safer communities through provision of training, campaigning, awareness raising, developing physical and digital resources and starting conversations about suicide across our local communities. We also provide practical and emotional support to individuals, families, organisations and employers bereaved and impacted by suicide. Cumbria has long standing higher than national average suicide rates and we have founded our charity to start a multi decade fight against this devastating issue.
