Head Gardener

Our client, an established business based in Albrighton require an experienced Head Gardener on a permanent basis. It is essential you have commercial experience in garden redevelopments and the development of new gardens.

THE ROLE

The Head Gardener duties will include; lead direct, train, manage, support, mentor the gardening team, be part of the gardens redevelopment team and to successfully deliver the gardens redevelopment plan, be accountable and responsible for the team under your direct supervision achieving the required quality and work rates to ensure that the gardens are maintained to a high standard at all times whilst achieving productivity, environmental and cost related targets, responsible for ensuring that the gardens team are trained and supported to be able to competently answer questions from members of the public who visit the gardens, accountable for ensuring that teams comply with all policies, Health and Safety procedures and any company or customer audit requirements. To communicate efficiently and effectively with managers, other supervisors and team leaders and advisers, as required, to ensure that the gardens are kept looking at their best and managed in a way that achieves the high standard of plant and soil care that is required for plants to grow and perform at their best, responsible for delivering a continuous improvement culture within the team. Responsible, as directed, for the inspection and maintenance of equipment used in operational functions, to be part of duty rotas. To be part of the gardens and commercial team that helps improve and develop the gardens so that they are reflective of the business goals and aspirations and to perform any other duties within the company that may be reasonably requested of the Head Gardener.

**REQUIREMENTS**:
The ideal Head Gardener will have experience of being an effective, accurate and honest communicator up and down, both within and across departments, be familiar with plants grown ideally and working in other gardens, have experience of leading, motivating and developing teams preferably at supervisory, have experience in gardens redevelopments, ability to work under time pressure, ability and experience in planning gardening workloads. Must have spray certificates PA1 & PA6, ideally experience of bio control, must be able to lead and manage a team of cultural staff effectively and to achieve goals, ideally have a formal horticultural qualification, but other similar qualifications / experience would be considered. Good pest / disease / fertiliser knowledge and/or ability and willingness to learn, must be well organised with excellent attention to detail and the ability to prioritise work, be proficient in the use of IT systems, including, but not limited to Microsoft Excel. Must have full UK (or equivalent) driving Licence.

COMPANY BENEFITS

The company offer excellent working conditions and onsite parking. 25 days paid annual leave per year, plus Bank Holidays, hours of work are Monday - Thursday 8.00am - 4.30pm. Friday 8.00am - 3.30pm.

**Experience**:

- Commercial horticulture and gardening: 4 years (preferred)
- Commercial garden redevelopment: 1 year (preferred)
- Supervisory: 2 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- PA1 & PA6 spray certificates (preferred)
