**Job description**:
Defra Investigation Service (“DIS”) is a part of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (“Defra”). DIS plays an important role in enforcing the regulatory framework of the department and most of its executive agencies and arm’s length bodies. We conduct criminal, regulatory and sensitive internal investigations on behalf of the Defra group including the Animal & Plant Health Agency, the Forestry Commission, the Rural Payments Agency, and the Veterinary Medicines Directorate. We are a small team of 20 people located across a number of Defra sites comprising a team of HEO investigators, a Central Support team, two managing Senior Investigation Officers and a Digital Forensic Team accredited to ISO 17025 standards. As a team, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards possible and we work to the Cabinet Office Counter Fraud Investigation Standards.

DIS investigators work in a fast-paced environment alongside numerous external stakeholders from various organisations.

No two days are the same and we work on any referred allegation of fraud concerning the Defra group including, but not restricted to, subsidy and grant fraud. DIS investigators also conduct some sensitive internal investigations, including allegations of fraud involving members of staff and allegations of regulatory breaches.

This is a travelling officer post, and the job holder will be required to undertake some travel when necessary, including some infrequent stays away from home. Occasionally, the job holder may be required to work unsocial hours.

**Person specification**:

- Manage your case work on a digital case management system.
- Work within the DIS investigation framework and comply with legal standards.
- Maintain your FI accreditation status on FISS by undertaking CPD as necessary.
- Research legislation.
- Produce investigation plans to deliver client and managerial objectives.
- Liaise with the referring client in respect of evidence gathering and timetables.
- Be effective and proactive in client relationship management.
- Gather the evidence identified to meet the requirements of the investigation plan.
- Manage the teams JARD records.
- Manage the teams ARIS budgets and bids.
- Conduct searches of premises in which you might be expected to lead a small team.
- Prepare and conduct interviews under PACE.
- Produce high quality reports for management and the client.
- Prepare case files for prosecutors using National File Standards.
- Manage CPIA disclosure responsibilities.
- Comply with data management requirements under DPA 2018 and GDPR.
- Play a full part in all aspects of the operation of the team.
- Take part in project work when requested.
