Sheffield, United Kingdom Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity within the Directorate of Laboratory Medicine for a senior position in the Phlebotomy Services. We currently have two vacancies for Senior Phlebotomists, which will be split between two sites at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Phlebotomy Outpatients Department is located at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital on C Floor, while the Drive-Through Phlebotomy Service is situated adjacent to the Northern General Hospital on Longley Lane.

As a Senior Phlebotomist, you will play a vital role in the day-to-day supervision and operational management of the site-specific Phlebotomy and MLA Staff within the Department. You will provide leadership and act as a source of escalation for routine issues and queries from staff and service users. Given the patient-facing nature of the Department, this role will require managing patient queries in a polite and professional manner, with higher-level issues being escalated to the Laboratory Manager.

This position presents an excellent opportunity for individuals with extensive venepuncture experience. You will join caring and welcoming teams and have the chance to progress your career while gaining valuable operational management experience in a highly demanding department.

**Main duties are as follows**:
- Ensure the provision of high-quality Phlebotomy services for the Trust and its partners.
- Supervise and manage the day-to-day operations of site-specific Phlebotomy and MLA Staff within the Department, either based on C floor, RHH, or at the Drive-Through Service at NGH.
- Oversee the day-to-day operational management of the Community Phlebotomy Services team.
- Manage the day-to-day operational management of the sample reception service from GPs, other hospitals, and clinical units across the city.
- Support Scientific Staff in Laboratory activities, including the collection of suitable blood samples, pre-analytical preparation to preserve samples where required, and basic analytical techniques under supervision.

You will be working for an organisation which values and respects all of its staff and the community it serves. The Trust is a leader in the NHS and research sectors and provides excellent benefits for its staff. This includes commitments to professional development but also many policies to support employees in balancing their personal and professional lives.
