The BSPS Lighthouse Laboratory Testing Service at Bracknell has been awarded a contract to provide public health testing services. This will initially be for a standby service employing a total of 51 staff members. The service is to be provided until 31st March 2024.
Staff numbers will be substantially increased if testing within the community is increased. After a short ramp-up period, the BSPS Lighthouse Testing Service will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.

To assist in the departmental work as instructed, following SOPs under the supervision of the laboratory managers and shift supervisors.
To ensure that all PreAnalytic staff are trained and competent in all SOP protocols
Receipt of testing samples into the department
Unpacks samples and checks that they are intact, suitable for testing and appropriately labelled with tracking barcodes, raising any problems with the shift supervisor where necessary
The employee’s work base, for administrative purposes, will be Bracknell. However, for this role, there will be a requirement to work from any other site from which Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services operates. This will be determined in accordance with service need. Reimbursement for business mileage will be in accordance with Section 17 of the NHS Terms and Conditions of Service Handbook

Assist with the basic analysis of potentially infectious samples, to produce results of a quality consistent with excellent patient care, following SOPs, under the supervision of the laboratory managers, team leaders and / or scientific staff
Carries out simple maintenance, and checks, on basic analysers, under the supervision of the laboratory managers, team leaders and / or scientific staff.
Displays and maintains an appropriate level of IT skills. Is able to input sample data, interrogate the laboratory databases and perform basic word processing and spreadsheet work
Performs a range of administrative tasks in all sections of the laboratory as required. This includes archiving and retrieval of specimens and data, maintenance of archived material and audit trail
Aware of Clinical Governance, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and local Health and Safety policies, including use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) reporting problems, errors or breaches to the Senior BMS staff.
