Head of Centre, Hindleap Warren

London Youth has been providing outdoor learning opportunities for young people at Hindleap for almost 60 years. You will be joining us at a critical time for young people when they need these experiences more than ever before.- As the Head of Centre, you will ensure the smooth and effective operation of Hindleap Warren and play your part in the senior leadership group at London Youth. We are putting together plans to improve the Hindleap site. Working closely with the Director of Outdoor Centres, you will be a critical guide and implementer of that development plan and a supporter of the associated fundraising. Above all, you will help ensure that the next sixty years are even more impactful than the last.Key Responsibilities
- The post requires an exceptional all-rounder who can manage and oversee complex operations, while leading and inspiring the team of around 35 employees. You will have experience of managing financial risk, driving sales and marketing performance and identifying fundraising opportunities.-
- You will have proven leadership and management experience and be able to develop your plan to take the Centre forward. We will want to see a programme of continuous improvement that will build on the long history of high-quality outdoor learning that has been delivered at Hindleap.- You will ensure that the centre continues to be welcoming and relevant to our network of London Youth members, while continuing to nurture the visitors we have from schools, other youth charities and the local community.- Hindleap Warren is an integral part of London Youth. The Head of Centre is a crucial member of London Youth’s Senior Leadership Group and a valuable peer to the Head of Centre at Woodrow High House.- While delivering a budget and plan to secure turnover of around £2m per annum, you will have a diligent budgeting and forecasting process, with a focus on good value contracting and high service standards.- Providing corporate leadership to London Youth, as part of the Senior Team, and working with those colleagues to deliver the charity’s overall strategy.- Leading on the safeguarding and health and safety compliance and culture of the charity, supported by a team of colleagues who are dedicated to safety, estates and facilities management.- Based at the centre, you will also attend events and meetings at our two other sites.- Follow our organisation’s anti-racism principles and practices as you actively promote and respect diversity and inclusion in all aspects of your work and working relationships.What you bring to the role

- A track record of managing and motivating a diverse team to deliver on the organisational strategy and plan.
- You may have direct experience of being part of an outdoor learning provider for young people. Alternatively, you have relevant experience in another environment, with a clear interest in working with young people and in the outdoors.
- Excellent communication skills; proven record of preparing and delivering persuasive, high quality, written and verbal reports and presentations within the organisation, up to Board level and externally.
- Financial literacy and the ability to budget, plan and undertake analysis to support regular re-forecasting on performance.
- Commitment to a high performing culture of safety and safeguarding.
- Sound IT skills - experienced in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
