The Geriatric team provides a front door frailty service which involves seeing frail older people as they present to Accident & Emergency. As part of the post, the applicant will take part in regular frailty weeks when they will be part of the frailty team, seeing and assessing patients presenting acutely.

Brighton is a vibrant and fun city to work in. The hospital itself is a sociable and friendly community. The doctors’ mess is brand new with sofas, a coffee machine, pool table, television and quiet room. There are several sporting events organised including beach volleyball at the Yellow Waves Beach Bar and football. Particular opportunities include volunteering for the RSCH led medical team for the Brighton Marathon in April.

The Geriatric Medicine department works across, Princess Royal Hospital (PRH), Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH) and Newhaven Community ward. This post is primarily based at Royal Sussex County Hospital. The Geriatric Medicine team work both on the acute floor and across level 8 in the new Louisa Martindale building with short stay frailty areas, general geriatrics and dementia specialist areas as well as daily rapid access clinic with the development of a frailty SDEC in due course.

There is opportunity to work within our Rapid Access Clinic for Older People (RACOP) which offers timely assessment for un-well patients, while also facilitating admission avoidance and early discharge through close working with community teams.

As the Registrar, you will be expected to lead the team of junior doctors, supported by the Consultants, in providing high quality care and ensuring timely discharge for inpatients on one of our wards. The wards have dedicated multidisciplinary team with daily board rounds which supports the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment of our patients.
