Paediatrics Registrar

(Clinical Fellow ST4 - Registrar Equivalent)

Would you like to join an enthusiastic team of doctors and nurses working within a friendly and well established paediatric unit in an exciting area of London?

A 12 month post is available in London for an experienced senior Clinical Fellow (ST4 - Registrar) in Paediatrics to start as soon as possible.

You will have the unique opportunity to work a full rota (short days, long days, twilight and night shifts) within a supportive, consultant-led children’s service comprising of an in-patient unit which champions ambulatory care, the paediatric emergency medicine department, and children’s outpatients. There is no neonatal nor community component but this can be discussed if you have the relevant experience and want to extend your contract to do tertiary neonates or community paediatrics.

Hackney is one of the most urban and cosmopolitan areas in the country with a striking diversity of needs, offering a wide and intellectually stimulating clinical experience. Experience gained at Homerton will equip paediatricians to face a multitude of responsibilities in their future careers.

To be successful you will have at least 4 years’ experience in acute hospital paediatrics, MRCPCH or equivalent is essential, as is GMC registration and a license to practise.

It is expected that applicants will have EPALS/APLS training and training in child protection (level 3).

We are looking for a doctor (clinical fellow ST1-3 equivalent) with good clinical skills interested in learning paediatrics or building on their prior experience. The post is for 12 months.

You will have the unique opportunity to work within a supportive, consultant-led children’s service which provides a full range of community child health services. Paediatricians work as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team to provide a range of services that are delivered through a range of universal, targeted and specialist clinics at Homerton Hospital and other settings. It is expected that applicants will have PALS/APLS training and training in child protection or be willing to undergo this training soon after starting in post.

Clinical responsibilities
- Assessment and management of children attending CEA (including resus), observation area, and those admitted to the Starlight inpatient unit
- Liaison with other hospitals regarding transfer of patients to specialist units
- Working with ward and community nurses to support ambulatory services
- Child protection cases that present to CEA. There are opportunities to attend child protection meetings and gain further child protection experience at the weekly psychosocial meeting
- Working alongside the consultants in general paediatric clinics and GP rapid referral clinics. Clinic commitments can be tailored to your interest and experience
- Supervision of SHOs, including GPVTS, paediatric and EM trainees
- To communicate effectively with other health professionals and service providers
