We have an exciting opportunity to join Calderdale Council’s Virtual School for Children in Care, Previously in Care and Children with a Social Worker.

The Virtual School is committed to promoting the educational achievements of Children Looked After and support young people to achieve their educational potential.

There is absolute commitment from the Virtual School to aim to deliver an outstanding service, and for children and young people to achieve the very best educational, and other, outcomes.

As an Education Officer, you will be working to support children and families who have previously been in care and are within kinship care.

This includes children aged from 0 up to 18 in all education settings. You will also be working to provide an offer of support to all children with Special Guardianship Orders (including those not previously in care) to access information and advice.

You will need to plan, promote, deliver, and evaluate a range of resources and training to support trauma informed and attachment aware practice within schools and settings.

You will be required to prepare and deliver training either virtually or face to face to delegates within schools or our partners within Children’s services.

You will work to establish key partnerships with wider agencies who may be involved in supporting these children and their families to raise awareness of the Virtual School’s offer and effectively signpost to other services within Calderdale and wider.

You will also respond to requests from schools and other professionals for advice and guidance about supporting children’s engagement in education and evidence-based interventions that can level up children’s outcomes.

You will be part of the team within the Virtual School with responsibility for children previously in care and kinship and be required to offer support to settings, families and professionals supporting pupils who are within the previously in care and kinship care cohort.

You will be required to be up to date on the guidance ‘Championing Kinship Care: The National Kinship Care Strategy’ (December 2023) and statutory guidance linked to this cohort, the existing statutory guidance for ‘Promoting the education of looked-after children and previously looked-after children’ (February 2018) as well as ‘Promoting the education of children with a social worker’. (June 2021)
