Position: Trainee Cook

Responsible to: Registered Manager

Hours: 35 hrs per week, rotas managed over a 7 day a week period. 7am - 7pm working hours which may vary. (Apprenticeship on full pay)

We are looking for someone who is vibrant, passionate about the food they cook and able to work well under pressure.

Purpose of the position
- To coordinate and lead all kitchen operations day to day to support our residents in establishing a nutritious and well-balanced life while living in our home.
- Lead a kitchen staffing team to ensure all duties are undertaken professionally, safely and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Prepare meals for residents with support from the other cooks, including the of supply home baking for afternoon teas, special events and meetings.
- Providing a centre of excellence that provides robust, dynamic and adaptable meal choices to meet the changing demand of the service.

Principle responsibilities

This list is not exhaustive and can vary from time to time according to service needs.
- Plan, prepare menus and prepare home cooked variable meals including baking and event catering requirement for 59 residents, staff, day guests and monthly events such as BBQ’s/picnics/afternoon teas.
- Be able to adjust and develop dynamic menu planning for a range of dietary requirements including residents who require “soft diets”, ensuring these remain as appealing as the full menu options.
- Maintain all kitchen and appliances in clean order, observing Environmental Health guidelines and procedures. While ensuring robust record keeping for all actions and food preparation.
- To liaise with other cooks, kitchen assistants and breakfast host on a regular basis to ensure the smooth running of the kitchen while on duty.
- To monitor the operation of all kitchen equipment and report/manage any faults in a timely manner.
- To ensure that legal and company requirements are adhered to in respect of Hygiene, Health & Safety, Employment Law, and Food Safety Law for all staff, visitors, and residents.
- Stock ordering and control.
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout kitchen areas.
- Correct portion and wastage control.
- Ensure the quality of the experience our residents, staff and guest experience are maintained and where possible improved.
- Maintain good hygiene records, procedures and pass all relevant inspections. Implement appropriate cleaning (inc. deep clean) measures.
- Ensure that you and your team provide a consistently high-quality product in a time frame acceptable to our residents with 5 star service.
- Develop a close working relationship with the home manager and care team to ensure food is delivered as smoothly and swiftly and adapt to feedback from staff, residents, and relatives.

**Salary**: £11.20-£11.87 per hour
