- We have an exciting opportunity for a Fashion and Textiles Technical Demonstrator to join our Technical and Simulation Resources team. The purpose of the role is to demonstrate a range of têxtiles and fashion techniques, including pattern cutting and garment making and to support students in their use. Knowledge of digital processes such as STOLL knitting machine and BrotherVR embroidery machine would be beneficial. This post would provide additional support to the wider technical team as required.
- The role will be varied and will include having responsibility for Health and Safety and Maintenance and there will be some autonomy in making decisions which support the student experience as well as a variety of other tasks which are detailed in the job description.
- You must have excellent practical knowledge in têxtiles, pattern cutting and garment making, be organised, have a keen eye for detail and be comfortable dealing with a variety of personality types in a changing environment with strict deadlines as well as managing and supporting team members. You will also be responsible for maintaining a stock of consumables and supplies, ensuring that the workshops are tidy and that equipment is maintained in good working order.

**Job Title**: Fashion and Textiles Technical Demonstrator**Faculty/Directorate**: DTS**Grade**: F**Location**: High Wycombe**Hours**: 0.4 FTE (14.8 hours per week)**Responsible to**: Technical Tutor: Art and Design**Responsible for**: N/A**Job Purpose**:The purpose of the role is to demonstrate a range of têxtiles and fashion techniques, including pattern cutting and garment making and to support students in their use.**Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role**:
- To work closely with academic staff and students to understand their technical requirements and use expertise in têxtiles, pattern cutting and garment making to bring design ideas into reality.
- To work closely with academic staff and students to expand knowledge in a range of conventional têxtiles techniques and new and innovative approaches.
- To work closely with the academic staff and students to ensure that all activities adhere to relevant Health and Safety guidelines.
- To ensure students and staff are confident and proficient in the safe use of equipment and techniques.
- To contribute to teaching in têxtiles techniques, pattern cutting and garment making.
- To contribute to the student experience - demonstrating an awareness of the need for ‘customer focus’ in respect of resolving issues.
- Prepare equipment and materials for use by students and academic staff.
- To maintain an audit and maintenance log to ensure that equipment is correctly stored and maintained, ensuring adequate supplies of consumables.
- To provide 'drop in' technical sessions for staff and students.
- Flexibility to work evenings or weekends during the academic term, as required.
- Any other such reasonable duties as required by the Line Manager.
