As Physician Associate (PA), you will work as part of the acute, on the day team within the Practice, consulting with patients who present with an undifferentiated diagnosis.

Additional parts of the role may include.
- Care planning

Supporting GPs with managing results
Supporting GPs with discharge summaries and other clinical paperwork.

As the Physician Associate you will act within your professional boundaries, providing care for patients from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care, with access to supervision from a GP.

You will show safe critical thinking in the clinical-decision-making process and expert care for patients within the practice.

You will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary healthcare team, supporting the delivery of policies and procedures. The PA will provide a holistic clinical service, with support from GPs as required, implementing agreed management plans and following approved protocols or evidenced based care as appropriate.

On a typical day the PA may be expected to carry out home visits and consult with patients who present on the day within the practice. Telephone triage is also a part of the role - training will be given, where required. The PA will review and act on blood test results and correspondence related to patients they have seen.

The practice holds monthly educational sessions, and the PA would be expected to attend these where appropriate to their role.

Supervision and mentoring will be provided by a designated medical supervisor along with the duty doctor within the working day. The type of support will depend on the post holder’s skills and knowledge and determined by our clinical governance arrangements.

You will have annual appraisals and continuing professional development as provided by a suitable named GP Supervisor and set out by the Faculty of Physician Associates (FPA).
